Telus to launch the HSPA IPHONE

So I want to first thank the person that dropped this into my lap. But Telus will be acquiring the rights to the Iphone in October. Directly from the mouth of a executive at Telus.

Save the "I thought rogers had an exclusive agreement" talk. I wont get into all that. Just know that it is coming.

EDIT: For the HSPA Network

Let the madness begin

Thanks again to the person that leaked this bombshell

Hrm.. not that I doubt you or anything, but a guy over on crackberry, who is apparently well placed for the same kind of info you get, has said recently that Apple will not build a CDMA iPhone, ever.. since Telus is going HSDPA, which is data only, that means it would have to have CDMA voice capability. What's your take on that Riley?

Well that's very interesting. If it is October does that mean the HSPA network will be launching around that time? Oct - Dec time frame? Just in time for the xmas shopping season.

So then this will be a data device only then? Can't make any calls with it, send txt's etc. Not worth it IMO then, if that's the case.

My understanding of the new network was data only, with CDMA as voice, until they have a sufficent network/phone coverage to be able to do away with CDMA, and use HSPA for both.

When this launches, will the phones that are available be able to do VoIP on the new network?

EDIT: Never mind, stupid question. They'd have to be. Forget I asked.

The new network will be voice/data off the bat. And of course, you'll be able to use this iphone for voice and data.

Incorrect. The network is hspa and it does both voice and data. Im wondering if a certain someone on here has confused u to think that all upcoming phones will be dual mode?

Anyway there will be HSPA phones. there is also dual mode phones but those will all be cdma based handsets. There is no such thing as a hspa to fall back on cdma.

There is cdma phones that can use hspa though.
