Found Bluetooth voice tag bug with Cingular 6230b (4.43)

It's happened to me twice now and I've had the phone for only 24 hours.

I'll have the phone locked and the BT headset connected. I'll hit the key on the BT headset (the Moto HS810 in my case) to initiate voice dialing...the Nokia 6230b will make the chirp/beep and the phone will say "Speak Now". I say the voice tag I want to dial and nothing happens. It still says "Speak Now". I say the tag over again without success. I then hit "Quit" and it's back to the home screen.

Press the button on the BT headset to re-initiate voice dialing...nothing. No response. Wait a few secs, press the button again and the white screen (background) comes up that is usually under "Speak Now" but the "Speak Now" doesn't show up at all. THe phone is as far as I can tell stuck now. Any key presses don't take it out of this state. I have to power cycle to get it back.

Very annoying and too many variables to know what is causing this problem. Any ideas people???

FOr the record this is not always...the phone does work with voice dialing over BT but this seems either random or triggered by something else I'm doing or is happening at the time? Perhaps the phone being locked?!!?

*bump*

Can someone check this out and let me know if it's just me??

FYI...i tried it again, called a bunch of voice tags and it seems to work. One of the things I did notice though is after placing a call and then hanging up (using the HS810)...in order to initiate another voice dial...I have to press the button on the HS810 once to connect and once to setup the voice dial.

I read that people were using the HS810 with the Nokia6230 without problems...are these known issues?

That's the latest firmware, isn't it? Wait until a newer firmware comes out and then sent it in to be flashed. I never sent in my super buggy 3650 and now the warranty has run out. Send it in while you can, when you can. Stinks, but at least it will be kind of free (excluding shipping).

is ur headset paired as handsfree or as headset??? 6230 can do both, and i think ur hs810 can also do both... did u record ur voice tags through the headset??? voice tags will be more responsive if recorded through the headset, and not directly through the phone...

6230 paired with BT headsets, on some u need to do 2 clicks to get the voice dial activated, i think its just the way it is...

I was wondering about the BT profile...how do I find out what profile is being used. I paired the thing by having the 6230 search for "audio enhancements" in the BT menu. IT works when it works but you're right, it could be it's using a different profile.

Any help would be appreciated. I don't think there's a way at least on the HS810 to pair with one profile or another. It would have to be something on the 6230.

well, i have not used hs810, so i can not help u there, but on my jabra bt200, if i press the up arrow and the call button to make it ready for pairing, that is the handsfree pairing

i dont think there is a way on the 6230, though... but one one way to find out what is the pairing is finding what is the icon showing on ur phone?? if the icon is a headset, then it is paired as headset, if the icon is like a car, then it is paired as handsfree...

I don't think there's a way on the HS810 as the Jabra. The 6230 shows a headset icon when connected to the HS810.

If anybody has a HS810 they've been able to get to connect with the handsfree profile, let me know.

What I also noticed, and you confirm this one friedbrains, is that none of the shortcuts that work on most BT phones seem to work on the 6230.

For example, I can't figure out how to trigger a redial from the BT headset, how to put a call on hold, etc etc.

Any ideas???

well, that is because those things are only available if the headset is connected as handsfree.... that is the added advantage of handsfree profile over headset profile...

to redial from your headset, simply press and hold the button for 2 seconds, and it will dial the last number u called.

Tried that and it doesn't work. I think that's only supported in the handsfree profile on the HS810. Problem is when I pair the HS810 with the Nokia 6230 it always pairs using the headset profile (probably the default)

Good to know that it's not just me. Surprised that it's been a bug in 4.24 and still hasn't been fixed in 4.43!!

It just happened again when I was playing around with the HS810/Nokia 6230. seems to be if you press the button on the headset repeatedly...so Speak Now comes and goes, at some point it will get "confused" and screw up.

Very annoying. I also don't like the fact that some times you have to press the headset button twice to bring up voice dialing while sometimes you press it once.

well, i dont think it is the 6230 to be blame alone, or perhaps it aint even the 6230's fault... i think it depends on the BT headsets mostly.... my bt200 doesnt always make the sound that the voice dial is active, and i have to do 2 clicks as well...

Where is the icon for the headset or handsfree profile on the 6230b? I paired with my HBH-600 and I don't recall seeing an icon anywhere on the phone when they were connected.

Probably because of the crappy black text. Look in the center of the screen...set a light or disable the wallpaper. You'll see a tiny icon that looks like headphones for a headset or a little car for handsfree.
