Exclamation Nokia 6255i - How to install Applications & Games!

You may have noticed you are unable to access the "Collections" folder on your new Nokia 6255i. PC Suite, by Nokia, will only let you access the "Collections" folder, meaning if your provider has this feature disabled (To force you to buy games and apps from their "service") you are unable to install any applications or games to your 6255i. There is a way to bypass this and successfully install games and applications to the phone

To install games or applications on a branded Nokia 6255i phone you must follow these steps:

Quote:
1) You must download and install Oxygen Phone Manager II Demo for Nokia Phones . If you like this software please purchase it through their site, however what we need it for will not require a purchase.

2) After that is installed set up your connection to the program weather that is by DKU-2 Cable, IrDA, or Bluetooth. Bluetooth is the easiest and fastest method but not the best for uploading mp3's. You might want to purchase a cheap MMC/SD card reader if you plan on using your phone as an mp3 player. But if you’re just using it to sync with Outlook and uploading programs Bluetooth is the way to go.

3) Once installed and connected to your phone you will see an icon marked "Java" in the file browser tree. Expand the group to find two more options, "Applications" and "Games". Click Java until it is highlighted and then look in the panel to the right. You will see two icons with a phone and arrows pointing inward and ******d. You want the one that pointing ******d marked, "Read from Phone". Once this happens the file browser will now show all Java Applications and Games that are currently installed on your phone. You should see 3 programs in the "Applications" folder named, "Nokia Converter II, Nokia Translator, and Nokia World Clock II". You probably haven't seen these programs since your phone is hiding the "Collections" folder which is the folder these applications are installed to. You may save these programs by right clicking their name and going to, "Save as Java files" and save them to where ever you want. You may also delete them by right clicking them again and going to "delete". You will want to do this to free up more memory for your programs in the "Games" folder. To make the program execute your above actions you need to click the Java icon again, right click and go to "Write all Data".

4) Now your "Collections" memory should be clear (0.0kb) since you deleted those programs above. To check enter your menu, and then go to "Extras". Once in "Extras" go to "Games" and click on it. Once that is done there will be two options and you will want to select "Memory". It should tell you your free memory, followed by the memory used in each folder. The "Collection" should have a 0.0kB next to it and since you have some games installed games will have how ever much memory they are currently taking up in your phone.

5) Now that you have a feel for Oxygen lets start to install your new applications and games. Make sure you know what directory you have your .JAD files in. Oxygen phone manger only accepts .JAD java files but if you are missing the .JAD file you can create one with this tool. Now right click the "Games" java icon and go to "Load Files to Phone" but be sure to select the "Games" icon and not the "MIDI" or "Application" ones. Browse through until you find the program you want to install, highlight it and click "Open". As soon as you do that a progress bar will appear and your file with be downloaded to your phone in seconds. Repeat as many times as you want to put applications or games on the phone. Even if you are installing an application to the phone be sure to load the file to the "Games" icon and not the "Applications" icon as you will be back to step 3.

6) You should now be able to go to your "Extras => Games" folder on your phone and see all of the new games and applications you have installed. You should have about 1.2mb in storage space for applications and games. I have yet to find a way to install the games to the mmc card and load from the "Gallery".

If you have any questions about this FAQ please post them as I will try to help everyone. If any mods can make this a sticky I would really appreciate it since it took a lot of hard work and time.

Lightbulb Nokia 6255i - Accessing the Collections folder to install Applications & Games!

The "Collections" folder is where the Nokia PC Suite will install all of your programs by default. This folder is also blocked by default, if you are using a branded phone (MetroPCS), so that you shouldn't be able to install any applications or games and you would be forced to use your providers methods of getting these programs which usually involves money. Above I explained how to bypass the "Collections" folder and still be able to install programs on your 6255i since most providers block access to that folder. I have now figured out a way to gain entrance into the "Collections" folder so that you have more ways to install programs.

To access the "Collections" folder on a branded Nokia 6255i phone you must follow these steps:

Quote:
1) You must open your phone and press the "Goto" shortcut key on the top left hand corner of the keypad.

2) You will see a list of quick access fuctions of the phone. These will take you to where ever the name says (Music Player will take you to the Music Player). By default only certain options are there, and we need to add a new option to the list which in this case will be a shortcut to the "Collections" folder. So next you will press the "Options" shortcut key on the top left hand corner of the keypad.

3) After you do the above you should see two options, "Select Options" and "Organize". You will choose, "Select Options". There will be a big list on Names with a box next to each item. Some will be checked with an "X" meaning that these options are on the "Shortcut" list. You need to scroll down until you find "Collections" and you will "Mark" it with and "X".

4) Once that is completed you can add or remove any options you want from the same list or you can exit with the "Back" option and go to the main menu. When you go back and do step 1 you should now see that the option for "Collections" is now on the list.

5) You now have access to the "Collections" folder and can delete or add any programs via the previous post or via Nokia's own PC Suite.

This will enable people who have problems with Oxygen Phone manager or people who just want to use the Nokia PC Suite to install applications & games to their phones without the use of two programs. However once inside the "Collections" folder there is no way to enable it into the "Extras" folder meaning you will have to use the "Shortcut" menu everytime to access that folder.

Lightbulb Missing a jad file for your programs?

Missing a jad file for your programs?

If you happen to be missing the jad file for your game or application you can make one quickly using this program. It takes the jar file you do have and creates a jad file from it so that it may be used with Oxygen and PC Suite.

To re-answer your questions:

Ki1ler I will help you if you need any help setting up or installing programs or if you need any help in general. Just head to my site and I can help you with anything.

Minn-Kota the Nokia 6255i is a bit more advanced then a series 40 and is actually a series 45. If you want games please go here to find games & applications as I cannot post warez links due to the TOS. Also, if you are missing a jad file follow the instructions above to create one.

WHAT HAPPENED TO MY POSTS!? I had posts answering questions and giving links to the sites to make jad and jar files and they are gone? Man, try to do something nice on this forum and they act like f'en hitlers! I posted NO WAREZ links or anything of the sort but why have they killed my posts? If your going to edit my posts please pm me with a reason!

Trying to get Oxygen Phone Manager 2 to work

Thank you fifth element- I'm SO close to getting this working but when I go to check out the games and apps under java- the program doesn't "read from phone" properly and show nothing under either games or apps. Any suggestions?

Thanks- TampaNole

cuttme2pieces I pm'ed you but you never got back to me.

TampaNole, are you talking about in Oxygen when you click, "Read from phone"? If so don't worry about that. Just check your extras folder and see if the games or apps made it in ok. After uploading a game or app with Oxygen you should get a message telling you it uploaded correctly. If I didn't answer your question explain your question just a little bit better.

Question Oxygen not scanning Java folders

5th,

The only thing that shows up under the Java header are the sub-headers Applications and Games. Each indicates that they contain 0 files. Every other category works properly and shows the contents of my phone. If I go to the java menu option of "read from phone" empty data transfer bars flash up for half a second and then everything remains unchanged.

The program seems to work great for everything except for this java function that I am most interested in.

Your help again is most appreciatd.

Don't worry about it reading from your phone. Just worry about it if it is putting the games on your phone. Are the games getting to your phone and working?

at this point I'm not trying to put games in- I'm trying to configure the phone as it should be- having a game icon on the main menu for example...

you also mention the world clock and coverter programs which I can not see on OPM.

I would like to configure my phone and its memory at will...

blah, blah, blah
