How To... Getting MP3 ringers to the phone via email...
I know there have been lots of posts on this subject with how to do it, etc... But more and more each day, I see posts of people having problems so, here is a test to help determine where the problem is...
(For this to work... make sure you have visited http://www.vzwpix.com and created an account first. If you haven't done that yet, you need to do that first!!)
For anyone having problems with this... Follow those steps Exactly!!
Use that SAME EXACT FILE, do the SAME EXACT STEPS. And please send via a WEB BASED EMAIL ACCOUNT... Use Gmail, Hotmail, the web based client for Comcast, etc... DO NOT USE A FULL Email Client software on your PC like Outlook. (If you don't have Gmail and want it, PM me with your current email address, I have 50 invites left). NOTE: I have only tried this from Gmail, Hotmail, and the web based access to my AT&T Worldnet email. I have not tried Comcast's web based email access, or Yahoo's web based mail.
This will give us a known good file and a known good process so we can help narrow down where the problem is.
I Visited... my ringer page... right clicked on 001_CTU24.mp3 and from the pop-up... clicked Save Target As... then in the "save as..." dialog box, change the "Save As Type" to ALL FILES and changed the file name in the box to CTU24.MID then pressed the "save" button.
Next, I opened my web browser and logged into my Gmail web mail account... I composed a new email to... my10digitphonenumber@vzwpix.com. In the subject: test ringer 1, in the body: test.. then attached the newly saved CTU24.MID and clicked send.
I waited... Took a few minutes, then the phone beeped that a message had arrived.
(Btw, I have auto download enabled on the phone. Menu -> Messaging -> Message Settings -> Pix Message Setup -> Download = Automatic)
Upon Reading the message... along the bottom, I see CTU24.MID listed and highlighted. My left soft menu key says BACK, and the right says PLAY. So I press PLAY.. The sound PLAYS... while playing, the right soft menu key changes to STORE. SO I press STORE... It pops up asking where to store it (Transflash or Phone..) so I select PHONE.. The Next screen shows me STORE OPTIONS... with STORE ONLY and APPLY AS RING TONE... If select Apply As Ring Tone, It changes my phone's default ringer to this sound and its listed under Sounds in the media gallery (when showing sounds stored in the phone). And of course, if I choose STORE ONLY it still shows up under Sounds... and can later be used as a ringer, or ringer id.
It works for me... Did it work for you??
I've seen too many of the following issues causing people problems...
1. Improperly renamed file (really is name.mid.mp3 for example... When it comes to renaming from .MP3 to .MID on a Windows PC... Go into Control Panel -> Folder Options -> View tab. Find the box for "hide extensions for known file types" and remove the the check mark prior to trying to rename the file. Failure to do so will result in Mytone.MP3 being renamed as Mytone.mid.mp3... After you remove that check, and you right click a fiel and say RENAME, mytone.mp3 will be properly renamed to mytone.mid.) Usually when this happens the file arrives at the phone as xxxxxx.QCP, not xxxxx.MID.
2. Improperly encoded file (file might be encoded as other than MP3 to start with, or is not encoded as an MP3 the phone can handle.)
3. File size is too big... I've seen various discussions on what the "limit" is but to keep it safe, make sure the file is 250Kbytes or under.
4. File name has too many characters.. (try and keep it under 15 characters if possible, when using MPT or putting sounds on a TF card in a PC, the limit appears to be around 37 characters, but when sending via email, shorter is better!)
5. PC based Email client causing issues... Outlook users are not having any luck with this process. But Gmail users are fine
and so forth...

Well never mind, monkeyed with this awhile but didn't work for me, thanks for something else to explore though.
Not sure if I understand what you are asking, but...
This process works for both MP3 and MIDI ringers... same process, just that MP3's must be renamed to end with .MID extension before you send or it will end up as a QCP file and not work as a ringer.
Comcast mail did not work, I tried my yahoo e-mail and it wirked great!!! Also on my 815 when you get the message it will say one of two at the top, use the right arrow to get to the music. While listening press the menu key and select save from there.
Hmmm. I follow the directions, but instead of receiving MY message, I receive a message stating "You've got a PIX or FLIX message! To see it, visit www.vzwpix.com from an internet accessible computer and follow the instructions. This is a FREE MESSAGE. time and date
In another thread, someone suggested this was a problem on Verizon's end with my account setup.
I just tried again with NO attachment - just a simple text "hello". Again I only received the canned vzwpix message above.
Is this a setting on my phone (Motorola E815), or is this an account issue for Verizon to fix?

Did you visit vzwpix.com and setup an account there first? i.e. "Join up"?
If you did, and you still get this, its an account issue and you have to speak with customer service
Thanks for the advice - I have sent an email to Customer Service. If the problem ends up being on Verizon's end, I'll post again when they've fixed it - maybe that will help someone else to know when it's to give up and contact CS.
In situations such as this, I always assume for way too long that the problem lies with me and resist the urge to call CS until someone more knowledgeable suggests it!
It is just not working for me......I set up an account at vzwpix.com
I send the .mid file to myself....the mail sends, but immediately after that, with the phone closed - it looks like there is a picture there....then it says 'NO SERVICE"....weird.
I give up......I hate verizon for locking this option and not telling users BEFOREHAND.....
