Free Wap:

1. Menu --> 073887* (type it in fast)

2. The Service code is 000000.

3. Web Sessions --> [New Entry]

4. Name it whatever you want and leave "User ID" and "Password" blank.

5. Go to http://www.publicproxyservers.com/page1.html and pick a server from there, you might have to try a couple before you find one that works.

6. Type in the IP address of a server for Gateway IP1, and type in the port for Port 1, E2E Port 1, and type 443 for LXL Port 1.

7. Click "Change", and then set this as your default session.

Note: Verizon blocked us from changing our homepage. A way to get around this is to send yourself a text message with the address typed in.

EDIT: Feel free to use my custom home page, which is at http://a.students.umkc.edu/akrff9/wap

flying haxor, thanks for a quick guide. Are you certain this only uses minutes? What are you paying verizon $5 a month for mobile web, for the use of their proxy?

i tried it for a few minutes, seems very quick and likely using EVDO. How is that not consider per/kb usage without a plan?

I don't think anyone knows yet.
The E815 is different with respect to Mobile Web. The $15/month VCast doesn't use minutes, so you might want/have to hold onto that feature.
The $5/month Mobile Web on the V710 uses minutes (whether or not you pay the $5).

Is VCast the same as Mobile Web? There isn't an option to add Mobile Web to an E815 account, is there?

EDIT: BTW, here's a couple of other posts on free wap:
Free WAP on the V710, without a valid proxy/WAP server:
http://www.v710.org/forums/showthread.php?t=1440
Free WAP on the V710 using a "free" valid proxy/WAP server:
http://www.v710.org/forums/showthre...t=1440#post8460
NOTE: In the WebSession, you can use the proxy's IP in "Gateway IP" field or you can use the proxy's DomainName in the "Gateway 1" field (and leave Gateway IP blank).

humpa, I kept my AC1 (800 min, 1000 in $59.95) when I got the 815 because I was using NA-MOU with the V60s and never got charged. (also didn't abuse it, just used it occassionally). When I log into my account, I can add the $5 mobile web to my account if I wanted to. That's why I was asking.

THe mobile web is ok, but the real interest is getting to use the broadband again with minutes only. Do you have any idea how to force the 815 into 1x mode? I am in a heavily saturated EVDO area. Even in my home, I have 5 bars. (towers are 1 mile away)

thanks for the reply.

I don't know how to force it to use the 1xrtt network. I've seen all the posts asking that question, and assume no one else knows either. No one has posted anything, at any rate.

Mobile Web on the Verizon V710 uses the 14.4k network (qnc)- so it is so very slow. I wish someone knew how to force that to use 1xrtt! The Telus flash on a Verizon V710 uses the 1xrtt network when they use Verizon's Mobile Web.

If it was me, I would use the EVDO (and not abuse it). I imagine after a billing cycle or two we'll have much more data.

Info on the Usage

I Have a few friends that work for VZW.. and I also was invited to be a Service Tech for them...

So As far as using the EvDO as minutes, the EvDO service for mobileweb is attached to VCAST.... and if you have VCAST as the guy above said.. can use the web any time all the time and its unlimited... it wont deduct from your minutes.

I have to be a bit more patient and just see what happens next month. spending an extra $15 a month won't be too bad if I can tether once in a while and not get nailed for it. otherwise, I feel it's a rip for small 1 minute videos. If it was $10, I think they'd have alot more people sign on for the Vcast.

Well that clears things up ... lol
Zombie said he had an option for Mobile Web ($5/month) on his E815 account?

1. Is there a Mobile Web ($5/month) and a VCast ($15/month) option? If you pay for VCast, is there a reason you would want to pay for Mobile Web too?
2. If there is a separate Mobile Web option, does it use minutes? Does it use EVDO?
3. If you don't pay for VCast or Mobile Web, how do they bill you for using a free WAP server? Do they just bill minutes? Does this use EVDO?

Humpa, to answer your questions:

1. I don't understand why there would be a mobile web option on top of Vcast, because everything is already included...
2. Yes, you can just get Mobile Web without Vcast for $5/month, it uses your minutes. I think i read on here that you can still get EVDO speeds.
3. If you use a free wap server, i guess it just uses minutes, but i'm not sure what happens if you're in a EV-DO area.

I'm sorry i forgot to give you credit for the small summary i posted at the beginning off this thread. I couldn't remember where i read that until i read the two threads that you linked to...

Now I have a question:

Are you guys able to browse wap.howardforums.com using the e815's browser over Verizon's gateway? how about Gmailwireless.com?

When i got to wap.howardforums.com, i'm able to log in, but on the home page, i can't click on any of the options, all i can do is check my Private Messags.

On Gmailwireless.com, i think i have a cookie problem, becuase i see the home page, but when i click on inbox, i get an error saying authorizaiton failed.... but i can't figure out how to change my cookie settings.

I was able to get to these sites fine on the v710, but i can't on the e815, i know the browsers are a little different, and i'm using verizon's server on the e815 for now...
