T-809: Can't set Mp3's as Ringtones

Once again Samsung has shot itself in the foot. Whenever I try and set a MP3 as a ringtone its always greyed out.. Even if its done via the "File Manager."

The phone will only do mp3 ringtones that are .drm meaning they will need to be converted, uploaded to a website and then downloaded via the phone. Drm mp3 files are protected files.

Where would one get a program that will do that- and once uploaded to a website, how do you download it to the phone?

Not sure about the conversion program but you would download them via wap.

Ahh.... T-mobile did this to make you pay for their ringtones or buy an internet plan. Sort of like Verizon turning off OBEX profile in the V710. Greedy carriers.

You got it. Maybe once the D820 is released ppl will be able to flash their T809 with D820 firmware and then be able to use regular mp3's as ringtones.

Found this website. The registered version of this program allows you to convert and upload an MP3 file into a DRM-MP3 file.

Wow, the T809 is officially a piece of crap. With no voice dialing or mp3 ringtones, it's almost as outdated as the p735.

Yea, I'm pretty disappointed in the phone, the ringtones, voice dialing and people are saying it feels like a toy.

I can't see myself paying $300 for this phone when the D600 isn't that much more

Is it possible to use .wav files as ringtones? Thinking of getting the phone and if it cant play mp3s or wavs then I'll have to look for a different phone.

Thanks,

Varun

I just got one and love it. It doesn't feel like a toy at all and looks awesome. It feels better than any phone I have ever had- not too hard or too easy to slide and the perfect weight.

I guess I'll have to play with it in store first before I order one.

To the guy who said we expect too much, its a $300 phone, and that's with contract, it's perfectly ok for everyone to expect alot out of it, especially since we have the D820 to compare it to
