2000 Free Text Messages with Unlimited Data

Hi all,

Just thought that I'd point out what the folks over at http://pdaphonehome.com/forums/show...20&pagenumber=1 have discovered: if you have an unlimited data plan, you can get a monthly 2000 text message allotment for free!

The feature is called "PDA SMS 2000 AllOWANCE".

For those of us using AUTD for push-like email, this is a nice feature, as a text message is sent every time a new email arrives. I believe that this feature is designed precisely for use with AUTD, but it just gives you 2000 text messages for whatever purpose you want, and they don't ask whether you're using AUTD.

In fact, as you might guess, the reps are pretty oblivious about this feature, and have to be convinced that it exists. The Wireless Data department is your best bet at 866-788-9387.

I was able to get this added in 5 minutes. My sister tried to and apparently it took 2 phone calls. They will pretend that this feature doesn't exist, and that you're crazy to think that you can get 2000 text messages for nothing. Persist. Don't take no for an answer.

Take care,
David

This has been a topic of extended discussion, but I don't recall anyone actually being able to confirm its existence.

Good info, David. Thanks for the heads up.

I justgot off the phone with a Data Tech Rep. After a few minutes of searching he found the "PDA SMS 2000 ALLOWA" feature. He was looking under texts but eventually found it when I asked him to look under PDA. He tried adding the feature but it gave hime some sort of error. He is going to look further into the feature and call me back tomorrow. Will Keep Posted

Does the data plan include picture messages? He said it didn't and I would now be billed for each one 25 cents. No biggie cuz that cost me about a buck, but I would like to know I'm being billed accurately.

Thanks for the help fellas

VZW told me that this was given to Samsung i730 users because WS had a but which required text messages to push. This is not the case for other phones.

I called the VZ data support team and asked for it by name. After a couple of minutes he found the plan and added it to my account with no issues. I checked my current features on the website today and it is listed. I am using the Treo 700.

Alright, just got off the phone with support. Lady was super nice. Found the code and tried to add it but it kept erroring out. She said she would look into it and call me back. About 20 minutes later she called back and said the reason it wasn't working was because I have the Treo 700 which is not an applicable device. What gives? I know she definately tried and she called me back as promised. What did the reps say to those who got it added using a 700W?

That would be monthly, sir. And apparently (or I am just lucky) this allotment is basically unlimited; last month I used 3481 texts and was not charged a cent for any one over the 2000 allowance. I haven't been charged for any messages over the allotment in 5 months. If you or anyone plans on going over the 2000, I'd do it slow, i.e., go over by 10 one month, see what happens, then move up..

Keep calling. I had no problem having a CSR rep add it on to my Treo 700W. It must be the individual reps that are the problem.

I just called in with my Treo 700w and it worked just fine.
The data support team added it for me. They usually won't add it themselves, but since it is a free.. its cake.
Thanks for the heads up!
