8125 Phone Functionality

Can someone let me know:

1) How well does the 8125 functions as a phone without an external keyboard?
2) How is the visibility of the dial pad in different lighting conditions.
3) How easy/hard is it to dial phone numbers using the dial pad
4) How is the speaker quality...stereo (for ringtones), volume and clarity.

I have the Nokia 6682 and I am contemplating making a move to the 8125. Never used WM5 before but it seems to be pretty sweet to work with. Any info/comparison will help.

Thanks

Flexman

MSN Messenger

Today I subscribed to the unlimited pda data plan. As I was leaving the Cingular store, i thought to ask the salesperson the question as to whether pocket msn messenger is counted as a text message for each message. He went and asked and came back and said it did.

I wonder how that could be. When I connect to pocket msn messenger, it connects to the Internet, doesn't it?

Is he wrong? I hope so.

He was giving the standard answer. However, he was wrong.

In all other cases, AIM/Yahoo/ICQ/MSN programs that come on Cingular branded phones use Text Messages. However, in the case of Windows Mobile devices, the MSN Messenger is not a Cingular program that they added to the phone, but one that was part of the operating system from Microsoft. Only programs that are added by Cingular can use text messages because such a program must be customized to use Cingular's IM server. In the case of the 8125, the MSN Messenger is the same one on all Windows Mobile devices and connects directly to MSN's server bypassing Cingular/T-Mobile/Verizon/Sprint or any other carrier -- the carrier only sees it as a data transfer.

But just as an example of what I mean, on T-Mobile's MDA, T-Mobile added a AIM/ICQ/Yahoo IM program. That program uses text messages. But on that same phone, if you use the MSN Messenger, it uses data only.

Can anyone tell me a good way to get streaming TV programs on this?

www.smartvideo.com

It's a subscription service like MobiTV, but works on Windows Mobile devices.

Well, again we are approaching max capacity again on this topic, with a staggering 5,044 post between the 2 main threads alone and who knows how many on the device alone. This thread has been BY FAR the most informative of the two, and thanks again to everyone for their time and contributations. With the thread nearing the end of the road, I am asking someone or someone(s) for a huge favor.

I havent been able to follow this thread as well as some of you have in here, and its because of this that you can be a huge help to me. I will probably be archiving this thread soon and would really like to place the on the OP the posts and are of the greatest informational value to the thread and the topic, so when folks come looking for info we can have a like to the post or thread that will assist the newcommers or vets from all the searching involved with the threads. I have tried to do some as you can see here, but I have obviously missed a lot. If you have read through this thread and see a post that addresses an issue you think would be helpful for the new thread, please send me a link to the post with the title "8125 OP suggestion" and I will take a look at it.

Again, please keep discussion on this via PM so the thread can contuine on topic from this post.

Thanks again for your time

trip

I found it pauses there when connected to the USB cable/AC adapter.

If I do not have a Media net plan, can I still access the internet via PIE or Opera etc... and download stuff, or will it just be 'disabled'? I know on my V400 now I can view sites at like $0.10 /KB.

If I then get the unlimited MediaNet for $20, will there be any difference? besides it being cheaper if i get more than a MB or two?

Thanks!

Bill

There is no difference btwn. PPU (Pay-Per-Use) data and MEdia Net except the price. A word of caution, though: It's very easy to chew up a LOT of data with one of these, so I would be VERY careful with PPU data.

I'm not holding my breath. I've learned from experience not to believe any release dates. It's too irritating to get your hopes up for something, and then be upset when you find out that it's been pushed back. Kinda like GSM and PTT.

Exactly. I am on a special plan and right now there is a glitch that prevents me from getting unlimited data added to my plan. But even at $0.01 per kb you can not even begin to fathom your phone bill.

if 1 kb = 1 penny.
100 kb = 1 dollar
1000 = 10 dollars
5mb = 50

You can do 5mb in a few minutes.
So think about it like that.

active sync issues with calendar

I just got my 8125 and disabled all the needed TREND MICRO security settings and added exceptions--and CONTACTS sync, but Calendar items are processing forever without success.

Any ideas of solutions?

Thank you

Thank you and ToyFreak for the information. I just 'tried' to add a MEdiaNEt Unlimited plan to my account. says up to 72 hours to activate. You can't always do it through the 'my features' portion of the site, you have to click on the blue bar up top and goto media net and sign up for a package there. Hope that helps.

Just rename the file to "Carrierlogo.gif" and put it in windows folder, then perform a soft reset.

Carrierlogo_None.gif = the carrier logo will be disappeared
Carrierlogo_ClearBackground.gif = the unmatched ugly blue background will turned clear
Carrierlogo_Original = This is the original file, in case you decide to change back to the original

Hope you guys like it.

THANK YOU!!!

I saw your post several days before I got my 8125, and like an idiot, I didn't save the images then. Now, I have been searching for several hours and finally found it. That was one of the last touch-ups I was needing ... works perfectly!!

Thanks again.
