If your interested in skinning your WM5 PPC Dialer, check these out...
I found an artistic rendering of a WM5 screenshot at Microsoft.com (here ) and designed these skins to resemble it.
Here is how you do it..
You will need the Eton Phone Dialer .cab file and install it on your Phone. This install will change the layout of the keys and active touchable areas on the screen. This will also replace your default Microsoft keypad, so be warned. Please read the notice at the bottom of this post.
Download the .cab to your computer and place it on your device with you PC's browser. Once there, use your Pocket PCs File Explorer to navigate to it. Run the cab and install to your Device Memory. The Eten Dialer install comes with a nice blue skin, but if you want to use mine, you'll have to download it here or below.
Once you have this file on your computer, unzip it and drop all the contents (BMP Image Files) into the "\Windows" folder on your device. It will prompt you with the question: "Would you like to replace the existing file?". Click "yes to all".
Restart your device and enjoy.
:Notice: The E-Ten Dialer does not support "Smart Dial", so you will not get the popup that shows you a reduced list of contacts based on the digits you've dialed so far.
Please do this at your own risk. I have followed these steps with my 8125 and have had no problems, but I can not guaranty that you wont.
Thanks, yeah, I found the other skins in the link at the bottom of my original post. I just photoshoped this new skin together over the past few days. I just thought if anyone was using the E-TEN Dialer they may want to upgrade their skin.
Jakaroe808:
Further to my post above:
On the main dialer screen you seem to have a frame within a frame at the top and my O2-UK network name spans these two frames in mid-blue and therefore is not readable.
The part of the main dialer screen with the left-pointing arrow on has two colored panels (Burnt-Orangey and sort of Mink/Pink) This is where my last-caller text/number doesn't quite fit and the top of each letter goes over into the upper colour and so is not easily readable and looks mis-placed.
If, on the main dialer screen there was just one frame and one color, everything would display perfectly.

how about some different colors? I like the way your skin looks compared to the ones in the original Eten dialer, but I'd like a nice blue too. Can you help out? Thanks!

Certainly sound words of advice. I've got a k-jam, so I hope the application should be roughly the same, and I never use smartdial. But -- how do you back this out if you decide you want to go back to the original panel/interface and remove all the customizations?

Yes.. There is a way without having to hard reset.
Got here and get your carrier's extended rom. I'm with Cingular so I would download "cingular-ExtROM.zip"
Unzip it.. Inside you will find a cab file called "SmartDialing_enable_0915_signed.CAB" or something similar depending on your carrier.
Put the cab on your device and run it via your Pocket PC file explorer.
Restart your device and your old dialer will be back, almost..
I have done this before but had one issue. The default background image never made it back, but aside from that everything works. I'm sure if you look into it thee may be a simple solution to the bg image.. Hope that helps.
