Exclamation EvDO DUN Works on E815 FW 01.1E.00!

That's right folks, I found something out. Thanks to some playing around, I found out how to use EvDO DUN on FW 01.1E.00. Check this out...

1. If you've been keeping up on our efforts to get our suspect Bell flash working on VZWs 815's, then you know we have a backup of the Bell filesystem. The key is using Bell's 2742 seem. Load this into your phone (backup your 2742 seem first), then restart. You can find the entire backup here: http://rapidshare.de/files/18620707/Bell_Bak.zip.html

2. Use QPST to get the nvm_factory file off the phone. Make a copy of it and open it using a hex editor (010 Editor works VERY well!). Scroll down to the bottom. You'll see references to 10dignumber@dun.vzw3g.com. Change these to 10dignumber@....vzw3g.com. Use this pic as an example:

http://rapidshare.de/files/19201565/desktop.JPG.html

Save.

3. Use QPST to overwrite the nvm_factory file on the phone with the one you just edited. You can also reload your original 2742 seem in place of the Bell one if you want at this point. Restart.

4. If you forced your phone into 1x, reset it to EV. If not, go to step 5.

5. Connect as usual.

You'll find that you connect fast as hell. I did a speed test on www.dslreports.com and got a listing of 287kbps. I would warn everyone to remember our good friend BFEINZEIMER (?) and use this SPARINGLY, if at all.

Good luck and good modding!

B.

why do you need to load the Bell 2742 seem first? especailly since you say you can later write your VZW 2742 seem back??

Btw, I had tried this before, but XVI32 hex editor could not open the file on my PC... and I could not find that value while editing the NVM files inside QPST

Does this solution eliminate the need for PAP only authentication? i.e. so i can use BT dun via PDA?

also, any reason to not just shorten it to be number@vzw3g.com?

change the hex 18 preceeding the phone number, to hex 14?

Now you really got my interest perkulating about this. Bring on some more comparison and discussion with this. Can't wait to get the Dun feature up to a comfortable speed rating myself.

For some reason, the VZW seem won't let you overwrite any of the nvm files but the Bell seem will. Since you only need to overwrite one file, the Bell seem needs to be loaded first in order to overwrite the nvm_factory. Call it "phooling the phone" if you will.

That's why I use 010 Editor. Think I got it from some package DL when I was first looking for information on the 815. You can get it here, http://www.sweetscape.com/010editor/, and I can get you the patch.

Not sure as of yet, but you're welcome to try it.

Ok, I just tested... for some reason I could not copy NVM_Factory to the PC without loading the BELL 2742 seem... With my VZW seem, it gave 0 byte file I copied the other day???

Anyway... changing to hex 14 and shortening to 10digit@vzw3g.com in both places (using 00 hex to remove the trailing spaces)... also works....

I can use DUN via my iPAQ 2215 with my E815 and the 1.1E.00 firmware forced to 1x mode which does NOT support PAP!! (I did not try in EVDO mode)...

Way to go BombaMyte & Systemunstable (who PM'd me about this on 4/28 @ 16:02 but I missed reading it)!! the key was in the BELL SEEM!!

Working now to map the differences and find the bit to change which allows the copy of these files between PC and phone so I can run with the VZW seem and still copy this stuff off.

PS. I never could find this string to change it while using any of QPST's tools.

Guys, there is a tremendous amount of progress being made on almost an hourly basis these days and lots of people are looking at the same things simultaneously.
It's all about figuring this stuff out and spreading the knowledge, not about claiming credit and self aggrandizing, at least for me.

We're all in it together and the real hero is HoFo itself, without which none of this would have happened.

Just a little perspective...carry on!

Seem 2742, bytes 90, record 1... Offset 5A bit 7 is the BIT that allows copying the NVM files!!!! Set this bit to 1 or "Check the box" will do it for the Verizon Seem!

i.e. In the verizon seem this is set "off" or "unchecked" when set that way, NVM files wont copy to the PC...

Turn this bit "ON" or "check the box" and you can copy the NVM files...

Toggle this one bit, and there is no need to load the Bell Seem!

And without KBMAN dumping the bell filesystem none of this would be possible.

It doesn't just give access to that it gives access to all locked files on the phone. including the brew apps prefs.dat etc and more.

Clears file attributes for QPST
Unlocks Files System in QPST
Full File Access in QPST

pick one

or
GOD MODE in QPST

I'll also take credit for more use and exploration of QPST which I have been quietly advocating for about 8 months now!

And nice job Mark_V!

I am searching for the data config seem still...
