I Think I FOUND A Bypass For V3m Tf
Ok first of all inside the arcconfig.ini (one for vid duration)
there are 2 lines: "Card Folder=fs:/card0" and "Card Folder=fs:/card0"
under the Pix Settings and Flix settings respectively..
i was thinking what if both lines are changed to
"Card Folder=fs:/card0/my_pix" and "Card Folder=fs:/card0/my_flix"??
does anyone think that would work soo you wont have to use the root of your transflash?
i would check, but i won't be able to get a transflash till next week..
soo if anyone cuold verify for me thanks!!!
i really hope this works because the transflash card root is limited to like how much files?

If the transflash card is formatted as FAT32, it will hold a theoretical maximum of 268,435,437 files. Of course, if it is FAT16, the maximum number of files is limited to 65,517 files.
In other words, I wouldn't worry about the number of files in the root directory being a limitation.

oooh..
i thought it only held a small small number...
wells i thought that this would be useful for organizational uses?
does anyone want to try and verify?
1. Create the directories on the TF card (my_pix & my_flix) <--- I imagine these could be named anything you want.
2. Copy the /brew/mod/arcmedia/arcmedia.ini to the harddrive from Bitpim. Save a copy of the file so you have the original as a backup.
3. Opened the file in notepad and modified the 2 lines to read:
Under [Pix Settings]
from Card Folder=fs:/card0 to Card Folder=fs:/card0/my_pix
and
Under [Flix Settings]
from Card Folder=fs:/card0 to Card Folder=fs:/card0/my_flix
NOTE: If you haven't already done the vid duration edit you can do that now as well
Under [Camera Settings]
from VidDuration=15 to VidDuration=240 (This will change your recording time from :15 to 4:55)
4. Save the file.
5. Right click on the file in Bitpim, choose overwrite and point to the modified file.
6. Close Bitpim and disconnect the phone.
7. Restart the phone. (not sure is step was necessary but I always restart after making any hacks to the phone.
Checked my pic/flix settings to make sure they were pointing to the card. Took a pic and a flix and they saved to the new directory on the card I also moved a pic and a flix that was already stored on the phone and they moved to the new directoy as well. Nice find. Now if we could just find this setting for the ringtones so we could put them in /motorola/shared/audio on the TF, we would have it made

YESSS!!!
i fanally made a contribution... i feel good now... lol
now could you try to repeat what you were saying about the ringtones?
because i thought that you could record a voice memo to the TF,
then overwrite it with your ringtone with the same name and it would be able to be used as a ringtone??

oh i meant when you record a voice memo,
set it to save to the TF..(that can be changed to a folder too ;P)
but anyways when you save it to the transflash, then overwrite it with your own file with the same name... here's the instructions from another thread
Quote:
----------------------
Make a mp3 a ringtone
----------------------
1) Make sure your Transflash card is in your phone.
2) On your phone go to "Get Tunes & Tones"
3) Select "Record New"
4) Select "Options" and switch the storage device to "mini-SD Card"
5) Go back to "Record New" and record a simple audio. It does not matter how long, I did it for 2 seconds.
6) Go back to "Get Tunes & Tones" and scroll down to the bottom and play (to make sure it recorded something) the new audio recording, also remember the name.
7) Shutdown the phone and put the Transflash into a PC.
8) Copy a mp3 file into the root directory of the Transflash card.
9) Move the mp3 to the audio recording file name (it will end in .qcp)
Windows Eg: G:\> move mymusic.mp3 061406_23591.qcp
*n*x Eg: # mv mymusic.mp3 061406_23591.qcp
10) Once the Transflash is back into the phone assign the file as a ringtone to any contact.
just for the record, i haven't tested this either because of my lask of a TF card!!!

A larger root directory
In addition to being able to locate the root directory anywhere on a hard disk, the FAT 32 system has eliminated the 512 entry limit of the root directory. The FAT 16 system uses 32 sectors of 512 bytes each to store the root directory. Thus, the size of the root directory on a hard disk is limited to 16KB, or 512 entries. In other words, the FAT 16 system will let you store at most 512 files and folders in the root directory. Under the FAT 32 system, you can have as many files and folders in the root directory as you want.
Entries in SUB FOLDERS do not affect this number... in other words... you can make a folder off the root called JUNK, and put way more than 512 entries in it...

Question...
By editing the arcmedia.ini and specifiying...
Card Folder=fs:/card0/my_pix
You are only impacting the folder used when you use the "set storage device" menu option and pick the TF card? i.e. it wont impact anything to edit this ini file if you do NOT have a TF card?
and why not use the standard motorola/shared/pictures or motorola/shared/video folders that should already exist, and are being used with the V710/E815?

Correct. Internal memory (w/no TF) has a different file structure and ultimately would probably end up filling before hitting 512 files anyway.
He could have set it to those folders but there isn't any real need to unless maybe for compatability if you are moving the TF between multiple phone models as mentioned. I assume (and probably should't speak for him) that as he was just testing things out he just made a easy folder name.

You can also just put MP3s in the "audio" directory of your phone's memory in MPT's MMS and use them as ringtones. I have done it this way and it works fine. They show up under the Get Tunes & Tones menu, just select one, select options, and then "set as ringtone" or ringer ID. No need to transcode to WMA or anything.

Man I'm sorry, I didn't even notice the audio settings were in the arcconfig.ini as well. I'll test this later today.

It is correct, that this edit will not impact anything if you don't have a TF card; however the first part of that statement is not entirely accurate because you are also impacting the "move" commands within the phones menu system, and also where the respective galleries will locate these files.
With that being said, you can also store/move all your wallpaper files (except of course those that are locked or that you are currently using) from the phone's memory to the TF card as well. This will allow you to have a larger selection of images available for use on the phone, and free up the phones memory for ringtones and games. It should however be noted that any image stored on the TF card will have to be moved back to the phones memory before if can be used as a wallpaper or ringer ID but you still have access to them for pix messages.
The setting for the phones internal memory is the line above this one which reads: Folder=fs:/shared/picture. I suppose you could change it if you wanted to but I saw no advantage in changing for three reasons. 1) The only limitation on the number of files in that directory is the phones memory. 2) No further organization was needed as the different file types live in thier respective dir. 3) I wasn't sure till I tested it that the files would even show up in the media galleries. If you will look at the arcconfig.ini file some of the dirs are called by a number or wildcard of some kind instead of a name (ie - MyPlaylist Folder=fs:/~0x0102382d/ or Clipart Folder=fs:/~/clipart) and I'm not entirely sure that other funtions of the firmware don't do the same thing.

Pure Lazy! I work with the TF both in MPT and the USB adapter. This way there were less click of the mouse to get to these directories. You are welcome to change the write up to reflect that you can name the folders anyway you want to.

1. The article you linked to and quoted contradicts your own statement: Under FAT16, "the size of the root directory on a hard disk is limited to 16KB, or 512 entries...", while under FAT32, "you can have as many files and folders in the root directory as you want."
2. Those file system rules in the article you quoted apply to Microsoft's implementation of FAT16 and FAT32 under Windows. If you recall what I posted, I said that FAT32 had a "theoretical maximum of 268,435,437 files."
Enough of this anyway as this is taking the thread off topic from the OP's discovery of a way to put subfolders on the TF card that the V3m can read, which is the good news.
