Question 8100 Pearl V. Mac OS X

Sorry if this question has been brought up before - I searched and couldn't come with anything I'm in the market for a new phone and I'm new to SmartPhones and BlackBerrys. I think I've narrowed it down to a T-Mobile 8100 Pearl. The only thing that's holding me back is that I primarily use a Mac and I'm not too sure how well it's going to sync up.

So my questions are:
  • Can the 8100 be sync'd up via iSync?
  • Can it sync with Mail?
  • Can it sync with Address Book?
  • Can it sync with iCal?
  • Can Safari be used as an internet browser?

Any answers would be helpful

By the way, I'm on an Intel-based Mac. I'm not sure if that makes any difference.

At this point, we're all waiting on PocketMac for any sort of synchronization. You can use your Pearl as a bluetooth modem, though - search the forum for my post from about two weeks ago.

like it has been stated above, we are all eagerly waiting for pocketmac to release software. They said it would be released in september. They have 4 more business days But no worries. I have a mac and am using a pearl. Good things come to those who wait.

Also, the answers to your questions:

Can the 8100 be sync'd up via iSync? yes, but using the pocketmac interface
Can it sync with Mail? No, but bbery syncs with your mail server and so does mail
Can it sync with Address Book? Yes
Can it sync with iCal? Yes
Can Safari be used as an internet browser? Yes, through the modem script and bluetooth. Although it eats battery so fast (both on your phone and pbook/macbook pro)

Lightbulb OS X and BlackBerry Sync

Just got a Pearl, use OS X 10.4.8, installed PocketMac.

I am not new to syncing as I have been a Treo user for many years, and have sync’d other handhelds for even more. I am also an Internet Communications Engineer (Wireless, VoIP, Video, etc) so this should not be too hard, but yet I found it to tax me in time and brainpower, and there's still more work to do.

Please read my blog posting on this, which includes my call for a better software to be built by Mark/Space (Missing Sync) and a link to their request form - please go and fill it out! I have have also submitted this request to BlackBerry and Mark/Space.

I also posted my DETAILED instructions for using PocketMac with my BlackBerry Pearl, given my experience at this point. I would love to get some detailed responses on how to keep the contacts from duplicating, and how to sync multimedia more easily. Other nuances, hints, etc are also greatly appreciated.

Enjoy!

Exclamation Missing Sync - BlackBerry OS X UPDATE!!!

Mark/Space has now updated their website with a “Coming Soon” for BlackBerry! Please see my post at:

http://bluntperspectives.com/?p=19

And thank you to all of you who filled out the Mark/Space survey for BlackBerry support!!!

Separately,

I have been out of town and not able to play with a full Sync via PocketMac.

I will be doing more research and will post asap when I have found the answer. For now, I am just overwriting the Pearl’s contacts/calendar on each sync (annoying).

I might just wait for Missing Sync to come out - worth every penny.

And after that, I’m waiting for my Apple iPhone for me and my wife! :-D

PocketMac for Blackberry works great with my Pearl and OS X. The best part is that it's free from RIM.

I'm sorry - I and many others across the web disagree bigtime.

I received an email response from Mark/Space and they were unwilling to be more specific about the date of release for the Missing Sync for BlackBerry. Sometime Q1 2007

Does anyone have experience with sharing a Pearl with both a Mac and XP computer? Any conflicts with syncing, like writing over data etc? Or fairly compatible?

Thanks for your help.
