need help with firmware for i855

First off, this is my first post so if this is in the wrong place I'm sorry.

Now to my problem, my wife has an i855 unlocked that she's using with our NEXTEL service. last night it the screen froze up and now at start up it's just white and shows "i855" untill I pull the battery out.

While searching I came across this thread:

http://verizonwireless.howardforums...d.php?t=1152202

so I tried to download the firmware update hoping that would fix my problem, however no matter what I try I keep getting "Error 35" saying that it can't connect to the phone. Yes it is in flashstrap, and I have done EVERYTHING I could find for trouble shooting. I even tried to load the update onto my phone, also an i855, and I keep getting the same error. Has anyone had a similar problem, and if so could you please help?

EDIT- I'm using an USB type data cord

Thanks, I'll check for that right away. Is there any chance I've already "bricked" my phone? if so, does that mean it's hopeless?

EDIT- another stupid question, what's flex ribbon? is that the connector at the bottom of my phone?

i don't think you bricked it yet.. how far did it start into the update?? if nothing at all then you should be ok .. the flex ribbon connects the main board to the LCD assembly..

I didn't get into the update at all. The program won't recognize that my USB cable is plugged in. I can't get the update to run on either one of my i855's. I was going to try running the update with my phone connected by a serial cable in the COM port and see if the update would read it that way.

Are you trying to say that running the update could be bad for my phone? I only ask because a couple other threads I found for people that had the same problem with a frozen i855 (one on this forum, another on a different forum I came across during a google search) suggested running the update to fix the problem.

Most of the threads I've found with my same problem either complain about not getting answers quick enough, or if they do get a suggestion they never post back with wether the followed them and if it worked or not

you got my PM i assume... you can try what you want to... the update won't hurt your phone.. IF you cna get it to recognize the phone initially.. but what you don't want is to loose communication with the phone half way through the update.. then you will need to have it reflashed... but as of right now i'm leaning toward the main flex cable.. i can help more .. but that's up to you

Thanks for the help, I really am gratefull. Looks like the flex cable won't be more than $10 with shipping so it can't hurt, if you really think that's the problem with BOTH my phones.

Are you asking about the cables or who I orderred the phones from?

I bought the phones from hassansyed786 on Ebay, as for the cables I didn't buy them. ONce I got a serial cable the update recognized my phones, however it came up with error 10212 say that the backup code plug could not be found and gave me the number to Motorola tech support. Once I called them I found out the phones are coverred by their warranty so I think I'm just going to ship the phones to them.

Thank you for your help though.

hey i suggest if you fix it or if not just buy a differrent phone. this will happen to EVERY i855 you get. you can put ANYTING on a i855 pretty much through your computer and cord. it will keep currupting or messin up your phone. this only happens with i855s. just get a i860 or i875, there better and they dont **** up

mod edit: do not bypass the swear filter

That happened to me too though. I had to send my old i855 in 3 times in 1 year to motorola. They just kept replacing the software which didnt help it kept doing the same thing. Thennn they finally sent me a whole new boost kit and 2 weeks later my old phone came back also they replaced some microchip and it worked like new. So i had a brand new phone and i sold the old one :-)

oZzy, I'll tell you exactly what I did to my phones. I purchased a USB data suite from Mobile Action (please don't give me crap about not using webjal I didn't know about it at the time and I've heard people having the same problem with it too). I followed the data suite's instructions to the letter and loaded a couple ringtones to my phone then my phone froze. When I restarted it, had to remove the battery to do this, it was stuck in the white screen with "i855".

Now, you said you modified the CP, does that mean if you modify the CP I won't have this problem again? Because I really don't want to just get a new phone and have the same problem, I want to fix my dang phones so it won't happen again. But if it takes modifying the the CP I'm SOL since I don't have any software to do that.

And if these phones can't be used with any sort of data suite then I'll get them fixed and sell them so I can get some phones that won't get screwed up.
