There is no current phone which has tones for messages which can be set for individual contacts. Since there is a finite number of ringtones, there is no way to assign a different tone for each contact or to keep track of which sound goes with which contact. Windows Mobile phones with Voice Command allows you to have messages announced by sender and by title. It should say something like "Message from John on mobile phone."
i can keep track of which sound goes with which contact because im only try to give it to some people but if you can give them Voice Command then their has to a way. i stop by att store some guy that worked said that the blackjack 2 can do it

Voice Command works for every contact in your address book. It will say the phone number for those not in your address book. You do not have to record voice tags. The software generates the voice tag from the stored name.
If the Blackjack II has Windows Mobile Standard 6.0, you have to purchase Voice Command. It is included in the Windows Mobile Standard 6.1.
The Samsung Eternity can do it, although it isn't obvious that it can. When you edit a contact, there is a set of default fields you can change, but there is also the option to add more fields to that particular contact, and one of them is a custom sound for messages and voicemails, named Message Tone. The only drawback is that the same tone is used for messages and voicemails, but that sound will be unique to that caller.

photo contacts pro gives you the option to have a sms tone for each contact. WM program but works great. I loved this program but have since switched to the blackberry bold. I would highly recommend the program and if you ever have issues the developers are quick to get you a fix.

Go into your contact and I believe you select add more fields. You'll see it. I don't have the phone anymore, so I might be off a bit. Make sure your contacts are stored to phone.
