The main differences are three.
1. The CA-42 cable consumes less power than the DKU-5 when it is idle.
2. The CA-42 cable is not detected by the PC unless the phone is connected to the other end.
3. The CA-42 cable can be also used in Operating Systems other than Windows 98/2K/XP, such as Windows CE, Linux and Mac.
I have a virgin 6015i. I bought a dku-5 but it doesn't work. Is it possible that there's a problem with the cable or that virgin has blocked the use of a cable? Would the CA-42 work?
Under data products the Nokia site only lists the CA-42. The DKU-5 probably doesn't work for it by design (kind of how some of the newer Nokias are going to DKU-2).

DKU-2 is straight Pop-port to USB while CA-42 and DKU-5 are involving serial conversion or emulation. Please also note that, there is a CA-53.... Seems like replacing the DKU-2 with official USB2.0 support.
Anyway, please refer to the compatibility matrix at Nokia USA site as well as European site...
The CA-42 cable can be also used in Operating Systems other than Windows 98/2K/XP, such as Windows CE, Linux and Mac.
I'm very interested in connecting my 6102 to a Linux machine. Are there any tutorials for how this is done? Do you just plug in the cable? What about the software from Nokia? Do you need it? Or does it just mount it as a drive and let you drag and drop files to it?
