SEEM edit for email client on T-Mobile V3 RAZR?
Hi --
First motorola that I've owned, that I've actually needed to consider SEEM editing the thing. All I want is one thing -- I want the native email client (that T-Mobile disabled) to be available again.
I've spent the past 2 hours researching here, on motomodders, motox, etc. I now understand a LOT more about what's a flash (HW integration layer), flex (operating software), and what SEEMs are (settings within the flex filesystem, right?), and what a lot of popular SEEM edits are. For instance, I'm seeing SEEM edits about enabling video, enabling the GPRS indicator, etc.
But after searching and searching, I can't find any reference to the specific SEEM to re-enable that EMAIL client in the T-Mobile V3 RAZR. Any help would be most appreciated!!
I'm assuming I could just re-flex it to the generic stock Moto flex image ... but then I'll need to re-do all the T-Mobile networking settings. To me, it seemed easier to just twiddle the one bit in the SEEM file than to re-flex the thing. The standard T-Mo branding doesn't bother me.
Any help/links? Sorry if it's in a painfully obvious spot - I just can't seem to find it!
Thanks!

Now, here is the catch. I used to do my seem edits with Xlri8 with the stock flex, and never had a problem. Doing the same thing on the T-mobile flex seems to cause all sorts of problems from the My Personalize menu not working, to features being turned off and on.
Download MotoKit, do all your seem edits there, I myself only needed to do two (funlight.pat and pop 3 enabling). Every other seem edit I wanted to do was already in the t-mobile flex. You can search these forums for Motokit, it comes by default in chinese, but you can change it to English with the menu options on top.

Thanks mbhelfman ...
Do you think Motokit is the best way to go, or Seemplayer 2.9? I've heard that seemplayer is a bit better for those of us a bit 'timid' about modding our phones. Like I said, all I want is the email client available .... the T-Mo branding stuff doesn't bother me.
I'll be happy to write up a detailed step-by-step guide on this one single mod once I've figured it out.

MotoKit is so easy to use, even for a beginner that is timid. One of the best progs that i have used in a long long time. give it a whirl!

Well, I did my first SEEM edit last night, and it was as easy as everyone had stated. Roughly speaking, here's the process I went through to activate the POP3/IMAP client on my T-Mobile branded RAZR.....
1. First, I had purchased and installed Mobile Phone Tools, and used one of the many mini-USB cables I had laying around to connect to the phone, sync my Outlook contacts, etc. You can purchase MPT through Motorola's website for the RAZR - http://direct.motorola.com/ENS/web_...productid=29302
2. Next, I downloaded Motokit 1.06 as found in this thread - http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=555134. I read through a lot of the pages of the thread to make sure I understood how to use the program, including changing the language to English. When Motokit starts up, it will need to install several additional drivers - each time it asks, point it to the /Drivers directory under wherever you installed the program (likely c:\Program Files\Motokit by default). Once all the drivers are installed (it was like 3 or 4 for my system) you're ready to SEEM edit.
3. BACKUP YOUR PHONE! Before you do anything else, do a COMPLETE backup of your phone!!! Press the BACKUP button, and follow the instructions.
4. Using Motokit, find the setting for "Email Msgs" and check the box. You get there - correct me anyone if I'm wrong here - by pressing the "Launch Script" button to modify the phone.
NOTE: I only changed the setting to enable the email client -- there are a LOT of settings here, and I've got no idea what might happen if you start turning others on or off.
5. Write the changes back to the phone, and Motokit will ask if you want to reset it. Answer yes.
6. The reset process looks a bit worrisome the first time you see it - but it only lasts about 10 seconds.
7. Go into messages and find the new option on the menu for email messages ....
8. Setup the client with your mail settings. For the ISP settings, I chose a GPRS connection and followed the parameters in the first section of the All T-Mobile Configurations thread: http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=697783
I cannot find a option called "Email Msgs". Can you elaborate more on how to find it? All I see in the left tree is "Common" with 7 subentries, and "VSeries" with 4 subentries. I've explored the entire tree.

I listed the button as "Launch Script" (was going from memory) but looking back at the screenshots from the Motokit thread, it's the "Launch" button in the lower right-hand portion of the window.
I see the button you are referring to, but it only shows up after selecting one of the entries from the tree on the left. The script information changes depending on what item you select.
So, which item do I select on the left before hitting the Launch Button?
Does the Lauch button actually make changes, or just load the script so you can edit? I am reluctant to launch any script without knowing what will happen.

If I recall, it was one of the V series entries. Just pressing "Launch" wouldn't make any changes ... it will just show you the options, with boxes to check for things you may want to change. Once you have done that, you need to write those changes to the phone.
So you should be fine if you just want to poke around and look at the options without committing a change to the phone.
