Thumbs up Detailed instructions on how to flash your W810 (Fix the dropped call problem)

Looking through the threads on this is forum (and DavinciTeams) about flashing the W810 is painful to say the least. The DavinviTeam software documentation is scattered and confusing. I created these instructions for those of you who were getting frustrated about this – like I was. The most helpful post on flashing on this forum came from the user Paco. Thanks Paco for leading the way!

A quick history on how I got here- I got my W810 for LALA West on EBAY last week. It was running R4CF002 firmware. Like many of you I could not talk on it for more than 5 minutes without dropping a call. I am using Cingular in San Jose,CA. After flashing my phone the dropped call problem went away!

The software to I used to flash my W810 is free, but you need to pay for “log accounts” to use it. It will cost you one log account ($12 US) to flash your W810.
The cable referenced as “DCU60” is the USB cable that was shipped with your W810. You use this cable to flash your phone with the new firmware.

The steps to take –

Buy a DavinciTeam log account-
1. Go here and purchase one log account.
2. After you pay, go back here then enter your paypal E-mail under “Lookup your (lost) login detail(s) + status”. Your Login and Pass is then E-mailed to you. For some reason mine was not automatically sent until I did this. Perhaps I’m just impatient.

Download all the stuff you need to Flash your W810–
1. Create a directory on your C drive named W810
2. Download the USB driver for the DCU60(USB cable for your phone) and unzip it in this directory.
3. Download the W810 Client1594. DO NOT USE Client1595! You must use client1594 or IT WILL NOT WORK! Unzip and save the client in the W810 directory.
4. Download the following files from this site - W810_R4CE012_MAIN_GENERIC_HN.DVT and W810_R4CE012_FS_AMERICA1.DVT save them in the W810 directory

Install and test USB driver/DCU60 Cable.
1. Connect your phone to the PC using the USB cable. When your PC detects the phone and prompts you for a driver point to the c:\W810\USBFlash folder. If your computer has already installed the driver try right clicking on the EPIUSB.INF then select install. (You might need to reboot after doing this) Other suggestions on how to load the driver on systems that have already loaded the default driver would be helpful.
2. Turn your phone off (you don’t need to worry about removing the SIM or memory cards yet)
3. Plug the DCU60 cable into your computer
4. Open the client1594 program. (Click on the Text “Sony Ericsson flasher/unlocker v15.94” this is a useless launcher that just confuses users in my option)
5. Under “Port Settings” Select DCU60 in the drop down.
6. Click on the “Read CID/Test cable” button
7. While holding down the “C” button on your phone plug the cable into the phone. (Remember your phone must be turned off)
8. If working you should see something like this –

Select the files and flash your W810.
1. Unplug the cable from your phone
2. Open the cover and remove the battery (Your battery should be fully charged before you flash your phone)
3. Remove the SIM card
4. Remove the memory card
5. Reinsert the battery and close the cover
6. Enter your “Login” and “Pass”
7. Click on the “Update Settings” button
8. From the client1594 program select the Main and FS files you download into the c:\W810 directory. See screen shot.
9. Select the CDA as America 1. (there is only one America 1 you can select in the dropdown)
10. Check the "Finalization" box
11. Uncheck “Increase SMS Inbox volume” - Confirm your screen looks like the screen shot below.
12. Click on the “Flash” button
13. While holding down the “C” button on your phone plug the cable into the phone.
14. Watch as your phone is flashed. Takes about 4-5 min. (Do not remove the cable or do anything on your computer while the phone is flashing or you will end up with an expensive paper weight. (I was paranoid and continued to hold down the “C” button during the entire flash process. I don’t think this is necessary .)
15. When completed you will see the text that looks like this-
Flash Finalization - successfull !!!
Exiting Test mode. Please wait...
Execution Time - 00:05:17
Done!
16. Disconnect the cable from your phone
17. Remove the battery
18. Plug in the SIM card
19. Plug in the memory card
20. Power on. It takes about 2-3 min for the phone to initialize the first time. You will see a progress bar.

The client should look like this before you click the "flash" button

awesome tutorial! thanks!!

Quick question though; Will a DaVinci update to the American firmware prevent future use of SEUS? What is the upside of using DaVinci now, rather than waiting for a SE update. Is there any downside to using DaVinci now other than the 12$?

I've read that if you use a CDA for a region other than the original CDA (that came preloaded with your phone), SE updates will not be available.
This means if your phone is not from the Americas, you shouldnt be using the America CDA. They somehow match the esn to the cda. I think this is why W600 users were having problems using the SEUS update service.

Can someone confirm this. This was posted in the DaVinci FAQ's.

From everything I have read so far, W600 users had problems because they were using an incorrect CDA, because they did not know what the proper CDA was to use at the time. W600 users have been able to change the CDA to a correct one, and were able to use SEUS. Someone even posted that here in one of the W810 flash threads.

My guess is that at worst, you can always flash back to what you had. It's just another log account to pay for. An SEUS official update could be months away. For myself, there was no way I was waiting that long. I am glad I didn't, since the phone rocks now.

Just a quick couple of things on markl_farkl's fantastic instructions.

1.) make SURE you have UNCHECKED the increase sms inbox feature. At this point it does not work with the W810, and will screw up your phone

2.) You CAN use the PlayNow option to have, or not have the PlayNow button. I never used it, so I chose to not have it. What you get instead is an icon that is simply a quick bookmark to your internet account homepage

3.) It is a little scary at first, but once the client recognizes that phone and starts the process, you can let go of the 'C' button

3.) Regarding installation of the USBFlash Drivers. If you happen to have already installed the SEUS update software (maybe you officially upgraded another phone), you likely already have the appropriate USBFlash drivers installed. You might be able to skip that step.

4.) It's probably up for debate whether this last comment is useful, but I did a master reset all before starting any of the flash process. I have no idea if it did anything to help, but I figured it couldn't hurt.

One more IMPORTANT thing:

The CDA that is used in the screenshot is not correct. The default pulldown menu includes CDAs for the K750, so that is not the right one to use. Nothing bad will happen, but as a result you will likely not be able to use SEUS later on. But don't worry, even if you used to wrong one, for another credit, you can do a fast cda change later if you need to.

The one you probably want to use with AMERICA 1 is:

CDA102555/15
(You can click in the CDA pulldown menu area and type in the cda just as it is above. No spaces.)

See below for full reference. This was posted by someone else, I think they got it using SETool.

SEUS can be quite picky... i've had a few phones that behave in a funny way.. some update and change the CDA back, some deny the update. some accept the new cda...

This is a great HOWTO, only problem is client1594 isn't available any more. The only client I can find is the client1595 unless I'm overlooking something...
And I've gone over the Davinci site pretty thoroughly. maybe someone can PM with a copy?

I'll upload client1594.zip to my webserver tonight and re-link it. I wonder why the Davinci team pulled it down from thier site...
