I have the same problem with my 2125. I called XBM and they told me that this is just how it is supposed to be, and that basically I should learn to live with it. The XBM rep went as far as transferring me to a 2nd or 3rd level support specialist who basically told me that he too has a 2125 and that the joystick sucks...and that exchanging it will really not do anything. I was tired of arguing, so I just decided to call some other time if it became worse. Well, it is progressively getting worse, it is almost imposible to scroll down without accidentally selecting whatever is highlighted at the moment I try to go down on the list.
I would also be interested to find out if anyone has an easy fix to this problem.

Pretty much the same problem that the SMT5600 had, the rocker switch was way too easy to click, especially after you used it awhile and it developed some play...
I have the same issue. I read somewhere about a guy who took his apart. He said that dust had collected behind the joystick and it was preventing contact. Holding down the joystick with my fingernail and blowing into the area temporarly fixes the issue in my experience. Looking for a dpad on my next phone.

You guys just jinxed me. About 15 minutes ago my jostick (2125) stopped working when pressed down or to the right. It still works when pressed up or to the left, or pressed in to select/click.
This sucks. I am on the phone with Cingular right now working on an exchange.

I've never been quite sure why HTC is on this joystick bandwagon w/ the smartphone platform...I guess w/ WM5, it's a little more useful...but I almost NEVER use the left-right buttons on my MPx220, and even on my SMT5600, the rocker switch seldom was used to nav left/right...
Given the smartphone interface, UP/DOWN is 90% of your movement, left/right 10%...so a joystick really becomes a pretty useless piece of hardward, a dpad is much better IMO.
I guess if you game on your phone maybe...but why would you do that
Ok, so I call Cingular and arrange a replacement unit. They send me a replacement unit, and I agree to pay $7.50 for expedited shipping.
About two hours later, my joystick starts working again. It then leaves me with a dilema. Do I keep my phone and hope that it was dust or something preventing contact and it won't come back, or take the new phone. I am leaning towards taking the replacement phone and playing it safe.
The replacement phone comes today. It not only has scratches in the plastic just below where the sim card is (which would be under the battery cover), but there are several noticable scratches on the LCD. I keep a screen protector on mine and go out of my way to keep the LCD in perfect shape.
This replacement pisses me off. If they are going to send refurbs, they should be examining them and not sending out units with scratched LCD's.
I found a way to fix the joystick not sure for how long but mine has been working perfectly since. Basically I followed the same idea someone posted about how to remove dust from the smt5600 screens. It's not the most hygene friendly way but it does work. Basically with the smt5600 you would literally put your mouth around the power button and suck out the dust. Well same method applies here, just put your mouth around the joystick area and start sucking. I kid you not, it resolved my issues.

It is a Smartphone common flaw that the five-way navigation keypad is too small to operate. its miniature degree can cause misoperation frequently. Therefore, NineWayKeypad software has provided one kind of solution: The user can switch the function of keyboard between characters and navigation. Moreover, under navigation function status, there are additional editing functions: Select text, Copy text, Paste text and switch between another editing keys (Page Up, Page Down, Home, End) and additional directions (Left Up, Right Up, Left Down, Right Down).
