I got an email today about an LG Optimus Blaze that may be coming to Verizon in a few months, and would be similar to the Optimus G. I've posted info about it here, also will take advantage of Verizon's upgraded LTE+ (LTE Advanced) network.

I have an upgrade in early October... I am holding out for this phone over getting the Samsung galaxy S3.

Thoughts? Worth it? I've read a couple other things an end of Oct or early Nov release date?

1.7 ghz, quad core, adreno 320 gpu, 2 gigs ram, 13mp rear, 1.3 front

This or the HTC phone with similar specs, just a higher res screen. The only disappointing thing about these 2 phones possibly is the non 16:9 aspect ratio. Videos will just be depressing with those bright black bars on LCD screens.

Well that and the htc phone might not have a removable battery or might be super thick if it does.

Both should definitely be super powerful and hopefully will get lots of development though.

Any comments on this phone versus the Note II?

Got to keep in mine the Optimus Blaze/G are smartphones, with 4.7" screen and no stylus, while the Note line is a pbablet with larger screen and stylus.
They are targeted for two different audiences.

FAUguy that is true. Perhaps I should have asked why one would select ths phone over the Note II, RAZR Maxx, etc.

So it looks like the Optimus G for AT&T will have an 8MP camera, while the Sprint version (and overseas model) will have the 13MP camera. Hopefully the one for Verizon will stay with the 13MP cam.

Will the 13Mp sensor be better than the 8 Mp one?

Weird, just saw this in the available WiFi networks in my area.85796

Will the 13Mp sensor be better than the 8 Mp one?

". . . that is the question."
Perhaps sensor issues are the reason ATT has been reported as sticking with 8mp?

Interesting, albeit incomplete, GNote II comparison:

Absence of SD info an obviously major drawback. This is potentially a superior unit, but lack of SD is a deal-breaker for me on any handset.

This mostly echos OP's link but I'm a little surprised it hasn't yet been posted here:

So, nothing more on release timing or the quad-core Krait? The "end of October" is just ten days away.

John says that neither one is great, but thinks the 8MP one looked better.

Does this phone come with locked boot loader?

Almost certainly. Question is, will it be unlockable? And will developers care enough to bother much with an LG phone?

The Nexus 4 uses the exact same hardware the Opitmus G. Radios aside, it wouldn't be a huge stretch to port nexus roms.

The G is such a great handset, tragic that it has no SD support. And it's absurd to make a Nexus with those specs at 16GB max storage -- even 32GB wouldn't cut it -- and have no external option. This SD-less design is too far off the trend to be stupidity -- Google isn't dumb -- it has to be a calculated move with an ulterior motive.

Yeah, the Optimus G and Nexus 4 don't seem as cutting as they would have been a few months ago.
With the Note 2, and HTC 1080p out soon, then Galaxy 4 next summer......

They're enough for me, and I don't see how it's NOT cutting edge. Aside from the huge screen, I fail to see how the Note 2 is a more advanced phone. It has A9 chips ...which is a generation behind the S4 pro, pentile, and a 720p screen. Assuming the devs can unlock it, the Optimus is a great phone. 1080p would be nice though.

Pretty sure that this will be the phone that will (finally!) replace my Thunderbolt. Well, unless the battery life is pitiful and I'll go for the RAZR MAXX HD. I will never buy another HTC device and the DNA is too big anyway.

I wonder if the Blaze's unsubbed pricing will be the same as the Sprint version ($550)?

TC_Mits

1mm.

The DNA is 1mm wider in your hand than the Blaze.

Yeah. Way too big. That's huge!

The 1 mm is a dealbreaker?

TC_Mits

No, I think the battery issue is the deal-breaker for him. He needs an S3 with a 4amp aftermarket removable one.

Its the height -- the extra 9mm makes a difference IMO.

This just feels like the same crap vzw pulled last holiday season with the GNex and the D4. Delay and ignore until the bloom is off the rose and there's no excitement anymore. Meanwhile -- PUSH the RAZRs.

Isn't the d4 a Droid which usually is hyped, although not as much now as a Razr. I have the same view of the Note II, Verizon is in no hurry to release it.

I think the DNA is Verizon's "special child" this season. Why pitch the RAZRs, and the Note II if people are more likely to go over their data cap with the DNA? And since Google owns Moto now, I really doubt they need Verizon exclusivity as much now.

Besides, most of the current RAZR commercials (especially the RAZR M) fail to mention the Droid part of the phone.

Picky. Picky. OK Blaze then. The point was that vzw has it's own agenda (literally) and if your cherished ideal handset isn't a priority, then it's of no importance at all how ready the *phone* is for release, you'll just have to wait because the only thing that matters is when vzw is ready to release it.

The D4 was scheduled for October, I think, then pushed back to Black Friday. It was actually shipped to stores in early December -- and shipped back again! I guess the ultimate release came in February?

As for the GNex, maybe this is still up?

Csn't think of any offhand, although the T-bolt did get some real hype as the first LTE release.

I'm holding out hope that Verizon will get the Optimus G Pro as the "Blaze" or whatever it ends up being called. The Optimus G / Nexus 4 specs that were sick 6 months ago would seem underwhelming now
