• iPhone 4 Users To Get A Free Case/Bumper Refunds

If you've got an iPhone 4, Apple will soon be offering you a free case to help alleviate the antenna issue. Those who've already purchased bumpers will get refunded for the purchase price. Apple will not be providing refunds for those who have already purchased third-party cases.

Apple cannot manufacture enough of their bumpers at this time to provide a free one to every iPhone user and so they will be offering a choice of cases to people who purchase (or have already purchased) the iPhone 4 through September 30th. What happens after September 30th is up in the air, as Apple will be re-evaluating the situation at that time.

iPhone 4 users can apply for a free case on Apple's website starting late next week.

Sadder still that they blamed the customer and said that the customer wasn't holding the phone correctly when it was shown that in a lot of their iPhone 4 promotional material, the pictures of the people holding/using the iPhone 4 were holding it in the exact same way.

I really do not see how a bumper helps signal? If anything it is one more thing blocking there POS antenna...

This problem exists on a lot of smart phones...not just on the iphone4! We tested it on a Blackberry 8900 at work and it does the same thing! Why isn't anyone demanding free stuff from RIM????

The antenna's flaw is that contact with human skin makes it fail.

The bumper makes it so that your skin doesn't touch the antenna, so that's how it helps the signal.

Maybe because Apple wants to be a "leader" and their products sell at a "premium" because their are deemed better, people simple expect new, more and better from Apple Products.

So, does the customer get "1" rubber bumper, or lifetime replacements?

What about 'word" that newer batches have been delayed enough to address the issue?

Congrats apple... you have pawned even more junk off for your janky phone to your few remaining customers.

3 cheers to you and your failing company!

The (cheap) bumper 'fix' is how they avoided the recall. Lawyers were getting excited to take cases on this. It is truly sad how Jobs was willing to screw over his own faithful cult.

Steve doesn't care about ''the faithful'' as much as he pretends that he does. Iphone 5 will be marketed as the the phone that can handle calls and the fanboys will eat it up...

I've had the iPhone 4 for over a week and haven't had a problem as it has been described by a lot of people. Seen the antenna bars go down but have not dropped a call.

This is while driving all over NJ, PA, NY and CT. As I said before, antenna reception has dropped by haven't lost a call and been able to browse the web and check email with no problem.

I've had the iPhone since they first came out and IMO they have improved a lot with every version, but will say that they are not perfect, and still believe Verizon has a MUCH better signal.

This antenna issue is not an issue. It happens to most if not all smartphones. Why isn't RIM doing anything about their phones? cause its happening on their phones as well.

If that was the case about RIM, sure it may not have the same media coverage as Apple but it would be covered. I have yet to see the news say anything about RIM. Obviously RIM doesn't feel the need to make a statement on how to hold their phones...

3 things I'd like to mention
Steve Jobs needs pr training, you must NEVER accuse the customer of misusing a product.

I thought going back to the old days of cellphones, one of the things they say is never touch the antenna. This dates back to the early 90s with the moto dynatac, startac and microtac.

Lastly, we will truly see the rf performance after the 30th of this month when the iPhone 4 goes onto more and better networks all around the world. I have tried to use the same phone I have getting full bars here in Toronto all over the US, on T Mobile and AT&T, it was spotty compared to our HSPA coverage, with slower data. So please, let's give the iPhone 4 a chance here in Toronto before final judgement.
      Cheers

i sure hope that they improve the reception after the 30th since ive been waiting to buy a iphone4 with contract this month, i guess i'll stick with 50/50 coverage and $400 android with boost, aghhhh i cant stand iden , you havent had a droped call yet until you get sprint/nextel,i got sucked in the advertising of Sprint.just another victim.

Why are so many non-iPhone 4 users so butt hurt about this solution or is it just that you hate Jobs/Apple because in sheer sales numbers they are crushing whatever device you worship (or worse, exposed it as having similar attenuation issues as the iP4)? Most of the people I see who claim to have no problems with their phones far outnumber those who claim to have serious problems. If you buy a product and it doesn't perform to your expectations, return it. If you don't like a product or company, don't spend your money with them.

My phone already has a case on it because I want it safe. If I like any of the cases Apple is offering more than the one I have I'll take a freebie.

Basically the internet and tech blogs are killing themselves over this non-issue, and Apple still can't make phones fast enough to keep up with demand.

Really? Because my Docomo X10 Xperia never once has had that problem. And neither did my HTC Dream.

What a cheap shot by Apple to drag other companies into their own problem.

We tested it on a Blackberry 8900 and 9700 and it does the same thing as the Iphone 4. I could test more phones but I don't think my boss would like it very much if we open up the phones for testing.
