A lot of people have been (im)patiently waiting for a BlackBerry 6 leak for their Bold 9700 devices. Leaks for other BlackBerrys have come and gone with seemingly no hope for the 9700.

Today BlackBerry 6 version has leaked for the Bold.*

    Visit BerryReview for download links.

*This is not an officially supported build for the Bold 9700. Please keep that in mind if you run into any problems with it.

The iPhone DST bug that hit Australia a while back has now struck in Europe. Apple has promised a software updated the resolve this issue, but at this point it has not been addressed.

North America is making the switch on November 7th, hopefully Apple will address the situation by then. If not, those that rely on their iPhone alarm should take precautions to ensure they don't get woken up sooner or later than planned.

Though no specific timeline has been given, Sprint CEO Dan Hesse has indicated that his company plans a gradual shutdown of the iDEN network it acquired after its merger with Nextel a few year ago.

"Over time, we'll have fewer and fewer customers on the iDEN network," he said. "That allows us to use some of that capacity on the network that is freed up and use it for CDMA. It's a gradual process. There will be an end date for all 2G, just like there was an end date for 1G."

Sprint Nextel has reported their 3rd Quarter 2010 results. A conference call is scheduled for 8:00am EDT this morning to discuss.

    From the press release:

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. (BUSINESS WIRE), October 27, 2010 - Sprint Nextel Corp. (NYSE: S) today reported that during the third quarter of 2010, the company achieved its best total company wireless subscriber net additions since 2006, adding 644,000 total wireless subscribers driven by positive net postpaid subscriber growth of 354,000 for the Sprint brand and the company’s best year-over-year improvement in postpaid churn in five years. Demand for smartphones like Samsung Epic 4GTM and HTC EVO™ 4G remained strong, and the company delivered postpaid churn of 1.93 percent – the best postpaid churn result Sprint has reported in the third quarter of any year.

Sprint announced third quarter consolidated net operating revenues of almost $8.2 billion, a net loss of $911 million and a diluted loss per share of 30 cents. The company generated $384 million of Free Cash Flow* in the quarter, and maintained a strong liquidity position with approximately $4.7 billion in cash and cash equivalents at the end of the quarter.

“Driven by record customer satisfaction, and the performance of iconic devices like the EVO and Epic, Sprint’s momentum continued this quarter,” said Dan Hesse, Sprint CEO. “The Sprint brand gained postpaid customers for the fourth consecutive quarter as, for the second consecutive quarter based on porting data, more customers switched to Sprint from our competitors than switched from Sprint to our competitors. In addition, our last two quarters have been all-time bests for postpaid churn. We also saw improvement sequentially in prepaid net adds and our lowest prepaid churn in almost five years.”

Because we know you might curious as to why we were down today, we wanted to pass on to you what happened.

Earlier today we were subjected to a denial-of-service attack called a "SYN flood" that took down our web servers for several hours. We were aware of it immediately after it happened, but it took a while to get everything back up and running.

I asked Howard for a statement and he had this to say:

"I believe the hacker group 'Pay Phone Posse' was responsible for the attack, blaming us for the demise of pay phones worldwide. I have word that they also hit some other cell phone related sites today. I believe their plan was to execute the DOS attack and then hang themselves with their telephone cords."
If you're curious about what a SYN flood is, Wikipedia has an article about it here.

Humor aside, all of us at HowardForums apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused anyone.

Droid-Life has posted a couple screenshots of a Verizon 4G "Reference Guide" that compares and contrasts LTE, WiMAX, and HSPA+.

    Some quick notes:

    WiMAX: Downlink: 3 - 6 Mbps | Uplink: 500 Kbps

    HSPA+: Downlink: 1.5 - 7 Mbps | Uplink: 1 - 4 Mbps

In the Reference Guide, Verizon also touts other advantages of LTE over the competing technologies such as: global adoption, lower latency, and speed to market for device and app development.
