Samsung has joined the arms race of ever-increasing camera lens assemblies, but not with a new flagship phone. Instead, they've joined the fray with the mid-range
Galaxy A7. Someone I know has the 2017 version and it's a very capable little device; my favourite thing about it was its price tag—less than $500 CAD if I recall correctly.
Anyway, the A7 is back again for 2018, this time with a 6 inch 1080 x 2220 pixel Super AMOLED display, a smaller forehead and chin, a 3,300 mAh battery and the aforementioned triple-camera setup... kinda. One of the lenses is actually just a depth sensor, à la OnePlus; it will merely
assist with photos captured from one of the other two lenses—one with a standard focal length yielding a 24 megapixel image and the other an ultra-wide (120° FoV) lens @ 8 MP. So really just two cameras, amirite?
Oh, and if you were wondering where the fingerprint sensor was, it's not under the screen, sadly, but instead embedded in the power button on the side, like a last-gen Sony Xperia.
Prices aren't yet known, but will hopefully be revealed at an official Samsung event on October 11th in Malaysia. More at the links immediately below.
