Seeing this post inspired me to try it on one of my family's accounts. Switching the top-up amount did not trigger an immediate payment there either.
Yes. You will need to change the autopay amount to $20 or the $15 amount you preset will be charged at 45-day intervals.

I have 4 family members on accounts like that. I'm just glad that the $20 for 90 days option is being offered.
