If i went to the touch pro it seems like i have 2 choices. Ge the $80 PDA/Smartphone nationwide e-mail plan for $80 and add the $5 text for a total of $85.

    Or

Keep the nationwide access plan fo 40, add the $5 text, and add the $30 unlimited data plan for a total of $75.

Is something wrong with my logic? why would anyone choose those PDA/Smartphone nationwide e-mail plans when the can add the $30 to their plan and have it be $10 less? Help me out!
The bundled voice and data plans are from a long time ago, and they also include the $45/month data feature rather than the $30/month one, which can make a difference to some with certain corporate needs, for example. In your case, it sounds like option two (with the $30/month data feature) is the way to go.

Although this may be a little off topic, in my view, this is a perfect opportunity to fill a need gap. We need a feature phone using Brew (I suppose) without html and/or Internet access for that matter but with a good PIM (Personal Information Manager) maybe syncing with MS Outlook. After all, virtually all the folks that want to buy PDA/Smartphones, but do not want a data plan, are simply trying to get a contact manger that is better than the measly offerings on our present feature phones. I agree that is a genuine good use of a PDA/Smartphone, even without data or the Internet.

This isn't quite the thread for this, but some Mobile Web 2.0 devices will also require a data feature/plan? That sounds even more harsh. I wonder which ones they have in mind (just the ones with enhanced browsers, or some other ones)?

Verizon killing Pay as You GO!!!

    http://www.boygeniusreport.com/2008/...now-mandatory/

Verizon just lost more than 30% of its customers! Totally ridiculous. They are even going to make dumb phones require data plans!

I hope they go bankrupt now.

Maybe they will realize it is a mistake once they lose 30% + of their customers. Trying to make some small cash will cost them in the end.

If this goes through, I'm done with Verizon and I am really hoping they go bankrupt. And hopefully the government won't bail them out.

If the article and the literature are accurate, then they have lost zero of their current customers. The policy affects devices launched after Nov 14 2008.

I like the PAYG option, so I'd think twice about buying a WinMobile device launched after that date.

This does bring the WinMobile devices in line with the BB's, which require the $30+ data option and have no PAYG option.

What a stupid policy. A lot of teens get these phoneS just to have. A full keyboard and can't afford internet. They will lose these customers.

it is so dumb how they are making feature phones require the v-pack, that just makes no sense to me. people are going to think twice before getting these phones, or wont get them. Now the PDA's are a little different. i still do not like the madatory requirement, but if they added cheper data plans it would somewhat componsate for the requirement. but i dont see this happening.

Actually, it is official. I have had trainings about this and it is happening for sure. Personally, I think it is a good thing as most customers that return PDAs and phones like the Dare are people who buy them just because they think they are cool then decide they really don't need to spend the extra $29.99 on email and aren't going to do web browsing on the Dare. This will help cut chargebacks for sales reps as well as help people be better qualified for the phone they need.
