Declaring an iPhone to Canada Customs

I'm thinking of bringing an 8gb iPhone back and declaring it at customs. Does anyone know how much they will ding me so I can get an idea.

    Thanks!

depends what's the percentage of PST...

    i got ding 13% (6+7%) BC

I don't want to have the risk... and still a good deal for a cell phone....

AND depends how long you stay at the states.
1 day, 2 days and 7 days would be different.

Just for one day...so they only ding ppl sales tax?

is it sales tax on the total amount after tax or just the amount before US tax?

Did you buy your iPhone down in Washington and bring it back up?

It just the GST (8%), since the federal government runs the customs. If you are going to leave it in Canada, they would like you to declare it. If you are just going to bring it back to America, dont declare it. If its in the box still, and they find it, (they wont even look unless you look shady) they will want their GST.

Got mine from the Bellingham AT&T dealer on Monday. I declared $450, and the customs agent charged me 13% tax. I know you get to bring back $60 untaxed goods if you're in the states for 24 hours, and $400 if you're away for 72 hours.

i went over, for about 30 min to also buy one in bellingham. On the way back (i'm 19 and by myself, got heavily interrogated going down) she asked how my trip was and the purpose. Told her i brought the iphone down (which was lieing in the passenger seat) to get unlocked by at&t but they wouldn't do it. She was like "hmm, sounds like a waste of a trip"
I told her she didn't have to tell me, i was kinda pissed off and thats why i came home with out doing any shopping. She said welcome home and have a nice day.

No charge, and my iphone is sitting beside me right now unlocked.

sweet i'm probably going to head to the states on sunday to buy one. if its just regular sales tax i think i'm just gonna claim it and pay the tax. i get too nervous lieing to the customs officers.
btw, how did u guys manage to buy it from at&t stores. i was planning on driving to bellevue to the apple store cause i heard at&t does credit checks and stuff like that when you buy it. oh and was it the at&t in bellisfair that you bought it at?

I bought an iphone...also with two t-shirts in the states and only declared the t-shirts. I was let through no problem.

Also, a friend I know declared it and had to pay $70.00 duty/taxes
