Motorola E815 USB Data Cable Problems

Hi all, i bought a 2 in 1 usb data cable that also charges from the usb connector, when i plug this cable into the phone it starts charging the phone, the phone makes the beeps signifying that its connected via usb, but then it makes another beep signifying that the cable has been disconnected but yet the phone still charges. i can not get my computer to read my phone or do anything with this cable, all i can do is charge the phone, is there anyway to fix this?

this is the cable i bought:

i have a cable that does exactly the same thing, registers, connects, and disconnects.

my solution is to take the battery out, the phone will connect and report 'unable to charge' but the data link stays active.

    where's the spellchecker?

Thank you for the information, Mark. I also found your webpages very interesting, albeit old.

    Yeah, old..

Since the birth of my son (posted on my home page), unexpected death of my older brother, buying/moving into a house, getting married, my dad's fight with cancer (that he then lost), leaving one global big name company after 20yrs to go work for another global big name company, buying another house and moving again, to my mom moving in with us, the past 5 years have been way too busy for me to have time to keep up with the web pages and even forums, despite Mobility & Mobile Devices being my day job.
