Yes apparently the 3G radio in the iPhone has really weak signal capture. It is quite pathetic.Originally Posted by cingular#1

SO there is a cell site owned by att right behind my house... I always get 5 bars of 3G signal. With my new 3G iPhone I only get one bar of 3G service.
Now heres the cool part. As soon as I disable 3G my phone gets full signal/5 bars on edge. Its been like this all day. I actually went within 10 ft of the cell site and got 2 bars..
I live in Greensboro NC. And I activated with my old sim card...
Anyone else have these issues?![]()

well this is ridiculous. I only have 1 bar of 3g....all around town and two bars next to the cell site..
Im returning if problems persist.
are you dropping calls? If not, what's the big deal?
2 bars is the most I've had on 3G thus far. I'm in a dense 3G area as well, so that isn't the issue. Most of the time I'm stuck with one bar... pretty awful. Hopefully after the mayhem dies down it improves, otherwise, back to the Apple Store this phone goes.
I go from 5 bars to 1 or 2 without even going anywhere. Since my ride back from the Apple store I been having almost no bars and a few "no service" issues. WTF?![]()
The big deal is that I paid for 3g, shouldn't I get it ? Also it keeps falling back to edge thus sometimes dropping calls.Originally Posted by wookiee2cu
I get no service issue too.Originally Posted by JD914
i'm having the same problems at my house in San Jose, CA. i used to get great signal with the 1st gen iPhone. Now with the 3g, the signal SUCKS!!!!! reminds of when cingular first started. this is not good!!!
will at&t fix this?![]()
I also notice that 3G speeds on my new iPhone aren't up to par with other 3G non apple phones. 3G in iPhone is as fast as EDGE speeds. I'm not happy.![]()

It's not the service it's the crap phoneOriginally Posted by JD914
People who are and are not having issues need to chime in here.
I love all my phones but what happens when they get too old to be 'cool' anymore?
Does my desk drawer become the retirement home?
I agree this is a phone issue not a network one. Is this just a few having issues. I agree with above poster, if people are having good signal and reception let's hear about it!
Well when I was at work (Sams Club if it matters), I was getting about 2-3 signal bars, and like the others said, when put on edge, an instant 5 bars. but right now I have 5 bars on 3g but I haven't talked on my phone since I was at work.
