Finally got my V9x today. Haven't truly tested it out compared to all my other RAZR2s but so far I like what I see.

One thing that frustrated me at first was that the network selection is limited like the V9. I tried editing it with PK Commander but PKCommander wouldn't open. Fortunately I was able to get it to work on my second computer.

It just doesn't make any sense why AT&T doesn't give users the ability to change their network settings by default since 3G is still plagued with problems. There are a few certain areas that I normally drive that drops calls frequently with 3G handcuffs, but never once dropped a call when I set a manual band selection.

Anywhoo... At least the edit worked, and I have the option to enable/disable 3G.

ooh, that's good news. do you have a speculation on what the difference between your computers was? versions of PKCommander?

i haven't used PKCommander in a few years so i'm a bit wary of my own ability to brick my v9x, but i too am interested in the ability to shut of 3G...seems it would extend my battery life too.

but overall, i'm happy with the phone too. except for missing the ability to have it "continually" remind me that i have a text message that is unread (i know that is annoying to some, but i would love to have that capability since i often miss the "vibration" of the first (and only) alert if i'm walking and the phone is in my pocket.

    Disabling 3G is easy! in seem 0032_0001 0ffset 43 bit 4 checked

That will enable Settings > Network > Network Setup > Band

And you can select a non 3G band.

wouldn't the reminder be under "reminder" in the ringer detail?

After nabbing a V9x on the first day they were available in my area, I still like the phone. I primarily use the cell phone for just exactly that. I don't need entertained. I have no need for ego expression, or status statement to make. I work in the medical field & am on call & need communication first & foremost.

I tried the GPS & pretty slick deal, but I have a Garmin & prefer the larger screen & satellite feature. The GPS also drains the battery at a fairly fast rate. It would be nice in a city that you were unfamiliar with, but I just use Google Maps for that but don't really need it.

The V9x has a few little things that bother me or I feel should or could be updated easily, but all in all it is a very nice phone.

The reception is outstanding & living in a rural area that is very important to me. I do not know of a phone that will match it in reception. The ring tone volume & voice quality/volume is of paramount importance to me. The V9x delivers. I personally like the voice call/controls & it works very well. The volume & clarity of voice is tops also. So for me, it is the best cell phone on the market. The crystal talk is amazing. The battery life is good, but certainly not outstanding but I keep an extra battery on hand just in case. Super durable too.

I currently own a Razr2 V9m, Razr2 V9x & a Blackjack II. I use the BJ to download drug formularies, policies, procedures, hospital & provider numbers. All the rules & regulations, etc. It seems to be a good phone so far. For actual communication & cell phone usage, the Razr's are still very tough to beat. Top cell phone made in my opinion.

    Debranding

Has anyone been able to de-brand all the AT&T logos, wakeup/shutdown screens, and other at&t specific branding in the phone? Please post instruction if you have. Thanks!!

anyone happen to have the stock at&t wallpaper shown in this image for the v9x?

also, i have a v3xx and probably need to upgrade soon - what changed from the regular at&t v9 to the recently released v9x and what are the "annoyances" of the phone people keep mentioning?

i am thinking of maybe finally getting an iphone but i don't know off-hand how much it would be for the plan (i have 4 family lines and my razr is just 9.99 add-on - assume iphone would be 39.99 instead so $20 more per month?). otherwise, i like motos b/c i'm used to them, already have the charger and stuff and am used to the software layout and mobile phone tools.

    Locking Or Disabling Gps?!

One of the things I most like about Moto is the ability to lock specific applications (calendar, phone book, etc). It's great for privacy AND if friends/family play with the phone or it is lost/stolen it's unlikely to end up with thousands of dollars in data charges (don't subscribe to data plans).

Unfortunately, it appears that AT&T (in its infinite wisdom) has the GPS unable to be locked. Even after locking down EVERYTHING on the phone in the security settings, the GPS can still be accessed without a password!

QUESTION: IS THERE A WAY TO LOCK AND/OR DISABLE ONLY THE GPS FEATURE (WHICH I WILL NEVER USE)?

    thanks.

I'm thinking this is what you need pick either 32 or 64 bit depending on your OS

I would suspect P2K to fail a lot no matter what when it fails try again if still not working copy the config file from the original zip to it's folder and it should work again.

HERE is the link to Motorola's USB Drivers

this is the response i get from P2k Commander

No p2k device found, NOT connected!
    USB: IO Time-out!
    CMD: Data write fail!
    volume name fail.

clearly my phone is plugged in, but its not switching to p2k mode...i have it on data connection and my comp recognizes its as motorola USB modem com port 4.

What version P2K Commander.... The 5.0.7 won't work at all for me must use 4.9.e to work the best for me.

I've never received a error like you descibe.
