We get to the end of the transaction, you know the part where they give me money and I give them the phone, and here is what came out of his mouth....
"I have to pay for this?"
I truely thought he was joking and so i took it very nonchalant and said of course you do. The look on his face said otherwise....
"I'm getting the data plan and customer service said as long as I got that I wouldn't have to pay for my Iphone"
I of course informed the customer that not even ATT employees get these things for free, to which he replied...
"This is the biggest BLEEPIN rip off I have ever seen. How dare you charge me for this phone after I've been a loyal customer for yada yada yada and so on"
He ends up getting on the line with CS and proceeds to give the poor girl on the other end an absolute horrible time. He went on and on ranting and raving about how horrid we are and how unpolite and unhelpful I was. Then he hands the phone to me and says "I'm sure you two can work this out... I'll be back and this better be taken care of or else"

After a short while and many chuckles between the CC rep and myself(always fun to share a laugh with you guys on the other end of the phone) the gentleman returned and to his dismay, the issue had not been resolved. This is where it gets sticky....

The customer then proceeds to get blood red and starts slamming my phone down and scream and then goes and grabs my shirt. Now not to toot my own horn, but I am a former Marine and for some reason, those instincts kicked in and I used a bit of force to get this guy down and subdued. At that point I contacted the security folks and that was that. But all in all this is the STUPIDEST customer action I have ever encountered.............

The law student in me says to sue under civil assault and battery. The realist in me says this guy probably doesn't have any money to gain relief.

I am a customer and rarely do I happen to overhear other customers acting stupid in a mobile phone store, but today was a first.

I had to wait in a very long line to work with a COR sales rep (in the local store they keep the SonyEricsson W580i batteries in the back) which was not an issues because I had lots of paperwork to catch up on. So, I found a chair, pulled out my laptop (they have a UMTS [3G] repeater in the store so the network is blazing fast) and went to work waiting for my name to be called.

After 20 minutes or so, a Gentleman starts screaming from the top of his lungs that at&t employs a bunch of scam artists and that we should all follow him and leave the store in protest. Of course, everybody else in the store is dead silent while this man railed against at&t and the COR sales person who was helping him.

Suddenly without warning the man throws his cell phone on the floor and jumps on it a few times before stopping and saying that he hates at&t. He then asks everybody in the store to drop whatever they were doing and follow him out of the store. He heads for the door and holds the door open for the mass exit (which of course does not happen) and then rather sheepishly skulks away from the store before anybody had a chance to call the police.

I happened to be the next person to be called and I thanked the employee for showing great restraint with what was obviously a deranged individual. He laughed and said that he is used to people like that as he also works as a male nurse at a mental hospital.

In todays litigious society, you, as well as the mall and att, can probably expect to be sued for the injuries incurred while subduing this fellow.

Sure he can be sued (everyone can be), but the customer won't win. The employee was touched first. He has a right to self-defense. They had reasonable cause to remove him from the property. Besides, for the same reasons I said in a previous post, he probably won't get a lawyer if he's *****ing about a $200 iPhone being expensive. These people tend to get uppity about having to pay for much of anything.

I had an interesting call when a customer asked me to extend the manufacturer warranty on a refurbished phone to 1 year instead of the 90 days. Not sure how he expected me to that.
Don't make me turn this car around.....

I had a customer call in two days ago and say their phone was disconnected for non payment. They knew their past due was in excess of $300 but wanted to know if they could pay $200. I explained that we would be glad to take her payment however b/c we are not a COR store she would still need to contact customer service and set up a payment arrangement to see if $200 would allow her phone to be cut back on.

Cust then says "well I can't call customer service b/c my phone is off. how should i get ahold of them" to which i have to pause for a moment and gather myself (so as not to laugh my a** off) and politely respond "well ma'am do you think the individual whose phone you're using to call me would allow you to call cust serv" to which they reply "oh my gosh (and giggles) I didn't even think of that...duh"

    duh indeed

Not to nitpick but you could have given her 1-800-331-0500 for CS. The phone cannot be restored until the entire past due pmt is made.

No, I don't think they want people with canceled accounts tying up customer service.

Actually, now that I think about it, they probably can call.

To pay their past due balance.
My opinions are my own and do not reflect the opinions of my employer AT&T.

Yes, they can dial 611 and 911 if suspended. only 911 if canceled.

I did give her the 800 number and I think you missed the point. She was calling me from a phone. So obviously she had access to another phone. But yet she still couldn't put two and two together that she just might be able to use that phone to call AT&T
