Message storage - Swapped phones but not SIMs

I swapped phones with a relative recently, but we kept the same SIM cards, and I was wondering if they would have access to my texts and contacts from my old SIM?

    Thanks for your help.

That depends. Some phones store texts in the phone, and some store them on the SIM. It'll depend on what phone you had, and what configuration you are using.

Contacts are the same way. They can be on the phone or the SIM.

Generally the phones support more bells and whistles, so modern phones tend to store the contacts and the texts in the phone, not on the SIM, although you can sometimes override that.

Short answer, probably he will have access, yes.
