Is this blog post a bit misguided? Mike at TechDirt gets a ton of viewership. I have a feeling the girl in this post bought a double minutes for one year card, not a DMFL phone.

Anyway, I'd be really disappointed if my Motorola doesn't keep its double minutes beyond November (one year old).

There is no such thing as "Double Minutes for one Year" card. There is a "Double Minutes for life" card and "Double minutes for life plus 800minutes and one year of service". My money is on the girl mistaking the meaning of the latter as 1 year expiration for the DMFL feature and not for the airtime as it really is.Originally Posted by fprintf

You can see my post on that site. Post # 11

It is possible the girl made a mistake in the meaning of the card. But we also know it is also possible that she was given some misinformation from Tracfone that would have validated her interpretation.
This is an old card. Is it possible that it is one of the annual dmfl plans.

It doesn't say dmf life. It says double minutes bonus.
UPDATE:
I sent the seller a question and asked if the dm was for life or for one year. This is the response I got.
Hey Jim, It's 1 year and my cards are only activated when they're sold, so my customers get the full 1 year. Thanks
Not sure if he was referring to the service or the dmfl I sent another contact with specifics about the possible differences in the cards. This is what I got.
Jim, It's for 1 year as stated previously, not double minutes for life. Thanks,

The card says "One year of service plus Double Minutes Bonus On Future Cards". My first interpretation is: You get 400 minutes and 1 year expiration, PLUS, DM for all future cards (i.e DMFL).Originally Posted by jimates
I think that card was replaced with the current 800min/1year/DMFL as the wording now says something like "We have already double the (original 400) minutes for you". I don't think the card is for the DM Annual plan, and if it is, the wording is really misleading. (BTW DMFL Annual plan is an oxymoron, isn't it?).
This is the original blogger who reported the problem.
I think I may have the answer... I found it on the back of the box! LOL!
On the back of a C139 I bought recently it shows "How Tracfone Works" and other "info" blah blah... It also shows some cards you can buy AND one of them is a 1yr/400 mins/double minutes card.
The description says this:
"Automatically Doubles Your Units on every airtime addition for 1 year"
"Extend The Service Due Date for 1 year"
"Includes 400 units of airtime"
The main thing here is people who get these cards may "assume" they're getting DMFL when they're really just getting DM1Y.
