    Post TM506 Debranding Wiki

I've created a page on the HoFo Wiki that can be edited and updated with new information on debranding, and a general information page. Since editing posts on the forums is disabled after a certain amount of time this seems like the best solution. If you want to edit the pages you can sign up for a wiki username so your IP address isn't shown.

I just updated the instructions & added a custpack which contains the following:
    1. Customize.xml with T-Mobile SMS, Internet, and Wireless Village settings
    2. Flash themes & desktops
    3. Optimized Camera driver
    4. Some java apps

What needs to be done still:
    1. Get the java apps to install automatically(and replace Opera with newer version)
    2. Delete the SE ringtones links in menus automatically
    3. Replace PlayNow on the main menu
    4. Replace camera driver automatically(Probably not possible)
    5. Walkman interface?

The customize.xml has all 4 APNs, and I've left them able to be edited or deleted via the phone's interface. I've also changed the apn priority settings and turned on data compression by default. Maybe this makes it have faster internet access?

It has the T-Mobile data sync settings and the quicksend to My Album link when you take a picture. This can be changed or removed completely via phone's interface as well.

FOTA is also disabled so it doesn't accept firmware upgrades over the air... You have a data cable and SEUS so you can do your OWN upgrading right? lol

    Updated today:

    - Separated T-Mobile Settings and Camera Driver Instructions
    - Added descriptions to Step 3 and 4
    - Added Customize_upgrade.xml to the custpack
    - Removed java apps from the custpack
    - Removed a Cincinatti Bell reference (Since it uses the stock sony firmware now)
    - Cleaned up other wording

I just noticed a change in the debranding Wiki. Under Step 1, there is now a option 0 that says "Install Gordon's Gate flash driver and reboot." I am pretty sure that wasn't there when I followed this procedure 2 weeks ago. Is that supposed to be there, or is that a prank someone threw in?

I put that in. A2Uploader doesn't work without the driver loaded.
I "assume" that the original writer missed it because they already had
the driver, or equiv., loaded. It's in the a2uploader download.

Gotcha. I don't remember installing the driver, but I must have since A2Uploader worked. Good addition to the procedure!

Wow, thank you!!! This worked like a charm! Now I have Google Maps working with GPS, and TrackID, and it's just better!

One clarification on the Wiki instructions. During Step 3 (T-Mobile Settings), it says to "Delete all files in /tpa/preset/custom". When I run A2Uploader and navigate to that folder on the phone, there are 3 sub-folders (2 are empty, one has one file in it - sorry I don't remember their names now, but one was MediaManager maybe?), as well as a bunch of files. Was I supposed to delete all files and sub-folders? Or just the files, and leave the sub-folders alone?

Similarly, when I am supposed to replace the contents with the contents of /tpa/preset/custom in the custpack, I am unable to drag and drop the two sub-folders in the custpack (desktops and themese) into A2Uploader - says it can't be opened. So what I did was go into those sub-folders, and drag and drop all the files directly into /tpa/preset/custom on the phone, without creating the sub-folders.

Did I do the right thing?

    Thanks again!!!

You can create a subfolder in A2 Uploader by right clicking on an existing file or folder and then clicking "New Folder/Create Folder". Then you can go into each subfolder and drag and drop the files in. It's a limitation in the program that hopefully will be fixed in a later version.

So, using A2Uploader, I did what you suggested and created the "themes" and "desktops" folders under \tpa\preset\custom, and copied the .thm and .swf files to the appropriate place on the phone.

However, I still don't see those extra themes and desktops on my phone...

    What did I do wrong?

    Thanks!

A master reset would install them to the proper places.

If you don't want to do that:

Copy the .swf files in "desktops" to
    /tpa/preset/system/desktop/flash/

Copy the .thm files in "themes" to
    /tpa/user/theme/

I will be doing this regardless, but I'd like to know whether this enables the FM radio. Also, does it enable the SE mail client? I've heard that it supports Exchange Activesync.

Yep, all 3 things are enabled after debranding.
