    If you didnt have At&t?

If you didnt have at&t what company would you use?

I would say nextel, i like the concept of the direct connect and i recently looked on there website there phones are way nicer and slimmer then they used to be a couple years ago, the i90, i95 i85 phone era. Def not t-mobile service sucks, or verizon, not a fan of a non sim card phone.

what would you guys go with??

tmobile, signal in my area is just as good, but with 3g 850 working on some of the phones I want, and area with 850 3g, 1900gsm/850 3g combo doesnt seem to bad for me. Also cost/min comes into consideration where I am at, since I dont speak that much less than 400min a month I use.

    Verizon Wireless.
Only because this company is more likely to address my coverage needs outside major cities and/or off the freeway. If I'm going to pay for a landline replacement then I should expect to have a reasonable amount of native 2G/3G coverage in the sticks. The lack of SIM cards, annoying UI etc.. sucks but I have to give up something to play.

    T-Mobile or Sprint?
That's a tough sell for me.

T-mobile. Good network, GSM, good customer service, good plans.
Sprint. Good SoCal network ... decent pricing. So-so CS
Nextel. iDEN limited coverage, slow data, reliable as a brick
VZW. Had a bad past with VZW.. I'll skip them
    AT&T... your world, throttled.

i just ported back to AT&T from Sprint. i had a SERO account with them, $49.00 a month, 1250 mins unlimited everything else. i also had a hybrid phone (ic902) which had both CDMA/iDEN radios. pretty cool, served me well and was dirt cheap. the only reason i decided to blow more money and come back to AT&T was the ability to have GSM again like ive always had. so if i didnt go back to AT&T, i probably wouldve stuck with them for another year.

Either Verizon or Sprint. They both have good coverage in my area and where I travel. I get 23% off Sprint and 18% off Verizon. So, the discounts are a motivating factor as well.

Too many emotional answers, but the factual replies, IMO, reflect the fact that one doesnt have att or t-mobile service for the best coverage, best coverage would fall to some cdma carrier, prob'ly either vzw or sprint, or any other cdma carrier which can roam on other cdma carriers, which is while I use a sprint backup to my primary att service. Nothing against t-mobile, but using t-mobile as a b/u to att would be similiar to getting an additional line of service on att, if one doesn't work, prob'ly none of them will. And there is a lot more blank space on the gsm maps, than cdma maps, and a lot more "off the main highway areas", where gsm service is non-existant. OTOH, if you never leave the metro area, then it makes very little difference.

for coverage... I tend to agree.
having vzw and sprint as backup would be similar to having at&t with tmobile as a backup.
I personally haven't been places in the u.s. where my at&t service hasn't worked... but many places where Nextel didn't

T-Mobile flexpay, it would be painful with no 3G but I just don't think I can do CDMA. I wouldn't want T-Mobile postpaid because they have alot of contract BS, like renewing when you change your plan to one of their 2 year old "promotional plans".

If i didn't have AT&T, I'd probably go back to VZW for the coverage.

For now at least AT&T works for me since I can always roam on some random carrier for a day or two while I'm hanging out in teh sticks. I have never had any real issues with coverage in the middle of nowhere so I don't think I need a GSM and CDMA line to keep me "connected".
