Arrow *OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia 6790 Surge (aka Mako)

    http://www.engadget.com/2009/05/24/n...eep-on-atandt/

Who said Nokia doesn't have a major commitment to North American carriers? We've landed news of a whole plethora of Espoo-sourced devices scheduled to hit AT&T over the coming months, and a few in particular caught our eye. Most notably, the Mako (pictured) is unlike anything we've ever seen Nokia make, mostly thanks to a side-sliding QWERTY keyboard that doesn't really resemble any existing hardware. It rides on the same S60 3.2-based platform as the 6650 and E71x, features dual-band HSDPA, a 2.4-inch QVGA display, AGPS, 2 megapixel camera, Video Share, and 128MB of internal storage with microSD expansion. Sadly -- this is going to be a dream killer for some folks, we think -- it's only got a 2.5mm headphone jack, which is a step back for multimedia support. This one was at one time targeted for June 5, but if we had to guess, it's been pushed back -- maybe we're crazy, but we feel like it hasn't leaked enough to meet that date at this point. Anyhow, looks like this one's a good foil for that QWERTY swivel allegedly due on Verizon.
A couple of S40 phones announced as well.

The specs are weak, but yay for more S60 US presence.

Nice to see Nokia making some low-end handsets specifically for North America. Hey look! A Nokia KRZR lol

Jesus engadget scooped the hell out of at&t's lineup. Someone's getting fired.

That's a really odd design..considering that these could be out of date I wonder if they'll look a little different when they actually come out. The designs of the HTC phones aren't final either as the touch pro2 has a german keyboard, which would make no sense here.

Good to see more phones coming from Nokia, but sadly the samsung impression looks better as far as low-end sliders go.

It doesn't mention it, but it better be a touchscreen or else dialing a number is gonna suck as one would have to open the sliding keyboard to open up speed dials or search through contacts.
DO NOT BUY FROM MOBILECITYONLINE !!!

Not a touchscreen. It's running the same software as the E71x.

That slider looks N96ish...why couldn't they just dumb down the specs, stick s60 on it and sell it on the cheap?

Because it's harder to sell an S60 phone with dumbed down specs. With S40, people are expecting ****** specs and you can call them "feature phones" instead of "smart phones"

I hope they're getting fired. Today was AT&T day on Engadget.

RYOBI, what's wrong with a 2.4" screen when there are no touch capabilities?

That slider has an optical joystick! I hope that starts showing up in more phones.

It really upsets the "I hate using two hands" crowd, since the numbers are in the slide.
