    iphone randomly shutting off

I have a jailbroken iphone 3g running 3.0os. lately the phone has randomly been shutting off or freezing. i cant really tell which but the screen is black and the buttons are unresponsive. i have to hold both buttons for ~10secs and it starts back up.

    anyone have an idea?

Had the same problem... I took it in (made an appt online first) and the Apple Genius swapped it out on the spot.

I've had this happen many times on 3.0 and a few times in 3.1. I don't want to make a Genius Bar appt. because they will swap it out with a refurb.

I've had this same issue and I'm on 3.0 and it's jailbroken. I'll just wait it out and see if it happens more frequently.

Just had my first shutdown. Took forever to re-boot too. It's the firmware and not my phone then?

    Non-jailbroken 3.1 here

to make things worse, it has also been popping up a message saying it looses connection to the network and all the bars go away for just a second.

this is starting to get really annoying.

I have the same problem with 3.1. I've swapped the phone twice with no solution.

has anyone tried downgrading their fw back to 2.2.1? i suspect that will work for now until someone finds a solution or a new update comes out. having a phone that works consistently beats the few improvements of 3.x

I have had this issue too... it's driving me nuts... Took my non-hacked 3G into the Apple Store and they swapped it on the spot... new one does it too... getting ready to call Apple and start yet another ticket...

Oh the joy of owning an iPhone...

May be restoring operating system will make it active. You will find an option named 'system restore'. Try to use that, or else take your phone to a service centre.
