I'm dying to get a BB9700 and have a friend who can use their Bell blue chips to get me one. I'm just wondering if i get it unlocked, will it work with Fido service? I'm looking for at least 3G speeds for browsing, calling and basically whatever else BBs were made to do. or any other GSM phones that come out with bell/telus for that matter, if unlocked, will they work with fido/rogers?thanks for your input!
I like.. cell things.
Well of course.![]()
FIDO $60/10GB + 5 hours unlimited data
WIND $15 AITF unlimited data (10GB full speed)
All my posts are my own opinion only and not necessarily that of any of my employers, past or present.
Hahah just like that? No restrictions, no problems, nothing? Nothing I should be wary about or watch out for?
Umm, why would it be any different than say, unlocking and using a Rogers phone? Or an AT&T phone?
As always, make sure BB's are new or have clear pins of course.
But good luck getting them unlocked...
If unlocking an BB 9700 is the same as unlocking a Rogers 9000 or 8900 then it should take you 30 seconds to unlock it![]()

What about the reverse? Unlocked Rogers/Fido GSM phone on Telus/Bell?
Wouldn't it just be a matter of just swapping the sim cards?
Maybe I'm missing something...
I intend to put a Bell SIM card into my unlocked iPhone 3G tonight to see if it connects to the Bell network. I will post results. I am assuming it will.

Maybe I am beating this to death, and I think there is a sticky in the Bell forum, but I guess just to clarify:Originally Posted by SilverSamurai
You can use on Bell / Telus any GSM 3G phone (as in a HSPA phone) with the North American 3G frequencies.
A 2G phone will not work on Bell / Telus.
Also, if you run out of 3G coverage with Bell you will get No Service instead of there 2G network since there 2G network is CDMA.
Cool thanks.Originally Posted by dr_torch
Didn't think it would work. And I don't think the T-Mobile Dash works as HSPA. lol
Nope, cos T-Mobile's 3G Network is not on the same frequency as Bell/Telus/Rogers/Fido.Originally Posted by SilverSamurai

T-Mobile USA is 1700 only, just like Globalive and DAVE. T-Mobile Europe is 2100.Originally Posted by JMPBass
I'm thinking of buying an unlocked iPhone to use on the Bell network. Can't wait to hear how it works out for you!
Did you just go buy a SIM card from Bell?
