I'm having some fun with these widgets. The location one is pretty cool. It's a square box with an on/off switch. When you switch it on it shows you a little map of where you are. If you switch it off it just shows the last recorded location.

There is some customization ability in here so maybe i can customize it to the point that it gets what i need done. There's still time to evaluate this device.

It came with PC Suite right? Will it allow you to text using your PC when you connect it with bluetooth or cable?

    It says version: 1.2009.42-11.002

Browser does not have portrait mode. In fact to me this device is just meant to be used in landscape. Sometimes I get confused which way is up and which is down especially controlling volume.

Portrait mode isn't coming until the update next month.

Sr just keep using the device for a week and don't even pick up any of your other phones. You'll find more things to like about it when you're not thinking about why/what your other devices did better. If you still hate it after a week, then I'd say return it

Do you think what they've done with the interface shows a lot or little improvement over S60v5?

Like Nokia, Steve, and even Stefan have said... this is purely for early adopters, who don't care (that much) if a device is tight. As long as there is enough RAW horsepower and wiggle room, everything else is irrelevant (to them).
You got to be kidding me.
The fact that Nokia released this device first in the US is not for early adopters Nokia intended it to. And Nokia cast a wide net. It will sell from Amazon to Dell to newegg and get this, Best Buy, is not intended for just early adopters.
They intend to sell it to as many consumers as possible to get a market share and hoping that developers will catch on. I really hope that developers come out with lots of sensible applications.
Now you are asking then, why not TMobile if they want market share? Who knows, maybe TMobile Techs said "nope that PHONE is not ready."

    We can only assume.

If they were serious about gaining marketshare, they would have released it with 850/1900 and positioned it as a phone first.

You also have to remember that this is their first device with a new operating system.

Sr1329, I would think having the button on the top left is ideal for when using in closed mode and two handed (i.e. using your left hand thumb). Does that not work well?

Btw, is there a keyboard shortcut when using in open mode to go to the app switcher?

ps. Would be great if you'd post a video review on e.g. youtube to highlight some of the issues.

lol . By the sr1329, I didn't expect you to be the first one to get N900 . You basically blew the hell out of the fans hat they hate you bcz of your comments on Nokia and surprised many of us . Btw, you wont expect to find ovi store since maemo 5 is not DRM ready. Also, try going to maemo-extras , maemo forums for help and downloading application please (dont forget that ).

OH, one last thing go to Mozilla website and download Firefox and post your thought on here.

Do you think what they've done with the interface shows a lot or little improvement over S60v5?

Yeah will force myself to use it. The interface is reasonable. It would probably be great (pink elephant time) if it had a capacitive screen.

It's a good resistive, probably the best I've used of its type and probably about the same as the resistive screens out there designed to emulate a capacitive these days. However you can't deny that as well as scrolling maybe implemented in the software now the screen holds it back. It's simply more effort to scroll or to tap things especially things at the top right corners.

Some people may think I was picking nits when I complained about the menu buttons being at the top but the problem is that when in the open position with your hands on the bottom for the keyboard and the extra distance your fingers have to move to get to the top of the screen and the fact that there is a slight play to the slider means that instinctively slide my whole hand up the side of the device to hit the "back" area.

Now why I get so upset and call Nokia a company full of morons is because the solution would be so simple: move those MOST OFTEN USED buttons to the bottom. They are basically menu and exit. You will use them all the time. In fact a large part of why I like the widgets so much is that I can try set it all up so that I never have to enter the menu. Trust me when I say this device would be FAR more comfortable to use if for that one change. A simple time lapse video of people given a set of tasks to accomplish with the device would reveal this UI design flaw. To me it is a major usability design flaw. It is one that could have been easily tested for and corrected. It is the sort of thing that makes me lose confidence in Nokia as a company that thinks their products through. I suspect we will be stuck with this flaw because of the dogmatic nature of this company.

Otherwise it walks all over S60 IMHO in terms of how it responds to your input. It is not iPhone/Pre level and users of those devices will feel it. With a capacitive screen I think 95% of the problem would be gone. Using this only strengthens my belief that S60v5 is a real turd. It's not meant at all for finger interaction. This device only made me pull out a stylus to calibrate the screen. Apart from that I never desired it.

This is a real touch interface, not the kludge garbage that frankly S60v5 is IMHO.

I will. Checked out Maemo Select found some stuff there. Really the absence of an app store doesn't bother me. It would be good for the platform but I guess that's Nokia's problem. Sadly by extension it is mine if I choose to keep the device, since a store attracts development.

If you guys had it for so long why didn't you post your thoughts?
