I was using the Nokia PC Suite the other day, had my E71x connected and was notified that new firmware was available for my phone. I hadn't upgraded until now and i'd been having some issues with a couple apps not running properly and the phone would give me a "System error" message every once in a while. I figured the firmware upgrade might help with these problems so I went ahead and started it.
Everything seemed to go fine, and when the Nokia Software Updater said it was finished and that the upgrade had completed successfully, I disconnected my phone, but didn't have anything but a black screen. I went to turn the phone off and then back on, but when I power it on it refuses to boot, giving me only an illuminated keypad and black screen. Does anyone know anything I might be able to try to salvage the thing? I'm at a complete loss for what to do at the moment.

That was the first thing I tried when it happened. It didn't have any effect, sadly. :/
same thing happen to me, try holding the green phone, the number 3 and * while powering up the phone this should hard reset the phone back to original, you will have to go back through the firmware upgrade. It did not work for me i had mine replaced.
