...3.4-inch HVGA display, 5 megapixel camera, and a pretty heavily-customized skin based on Android 2.1. How custom are we talking, exactly? Well, it's not quite like anything we've seen on a production Android device before, featuring a host of custom apps including the "Faves Gallery," a social aggregator for your most dearly beloved contacts; "myModes," a profile manager that can change the phone's themes and settings based on time or location; the Swype keyboard in place of Google's option; and the so-called "Genius Button," which seeks to extend Android's already decent voice command and text-to-speech systems by allowing you to do just about anything on the phone using your voice, hear messages read back to you, and so on. In the myTouch 3G tradition, the Slide will come in a selection of colors when it launches in June -- black, white, or red -- for a to-be-announced price.

Looks a little toy like. But with a keyboard, 2.1 and a decent price point I am sure it will absolutely fly off the shelves.

I agree. Not a high end device but a very respectable mid range one.

Considering T-Mobile's target audience and generous equipment installment plans, this should sell very well.

Not a nerds paradise but something I see teens, young adults, physical keyboard and newbie smartphone users gravitating too.

Engadget mentions a real plastic feel to the unit. I guess I'll reserve judgement on that till I hold it in my own hands.

I'm glad device manufacturers have not totally abandoned the mid range market.

Yeah, I think I'll scoop this thing up...after the early adopters get their hands on it and provide their feedback. I had my eye on an HD2 but I'll keep my TP2 around for my WinMo fix.

I had a hands on last Friday. Fits nicely and feels good in the hand. The unit was black and you either like shiny plastic or you don't. Showed the pics in this post to the wife and she wants red, so red it is. Not a world beater, but a nice phone. A worthwhile improvement over the G1 and something to use while waiting on ????

That's good to hear. I am hoping that it's lighter and more pocket-friendly than the Touch Pro2. I'm tired of carrying that brick around.

How does the modes work? Do you set the ringer in a particular mode? So if I'm at church, library, or other location I'm expected to be quiet, can it be set to automatically be on silent, instead of with the ringer on?
