Oh, I understand you so well! I don't see any sense in spending much money for brands in case of phones too. For me the main thing is that specifications I want and general quality of certain device, besides I don't usually use all that cool functions in modern smartphones so in my case there's no need to buy a very upgraded one
Besides high price doesn't always mean a really nice smartphone. For example, I had IPhone 6 (it was a gift for my birthday) but it had many disadvantages in my eyes, the most of all I didn't like weak cam, absence of the special slot for memory card and various problems with Apple software, sadly I can't say that it's user-friendly.
I replaced it with Infinix Zero 5 Pro https://linkto-blog.com/2018/02/18/i...let-5-98-inch/ several months ago and it's much better for me in many aspects, besides it costs much less than famous IPhones. I also want to try OnePlus and Huawei in future too, heard many positive reviews about their phones and plesant prices for them.
What means nothing for you, means everything for me (c)

I think they will make a model with no display based on their recent device changes over the years (removal of home button, head phone jack, etc.). You will get a blue tooth interface implanted in your head subdermally to allow true "hands free" usage of the phone.
Don't make me turn this car around.....

I'm thinking I'm going to replace my, newly acquired, Samsung S7 with an iPhone 8. I'm
not an Apple fan but in our recent travels from WA to AZ, my wife's iPhone consistantly
got a 4G signal where I got little or none.

They're at opposite ends of the spectrum. If you can use the P2 on any carrier you want, that would be my pick (out of those 2) because I like vanilla Google. But if you want maybe a better camera (although I think the P2 gets very high marks), the S9.

For me, sadly, the hardware out there is forcing me to choose lower end/midrange phones. Like the Moto g5 because it has SD card and removable battery. I'm sick of shelling out money every two years for a new phone, just because my phone has an old battery. Then again, if I buy the g5 I'll probably want a new phone anyway as soon as the battery starts to diminish.

I voted Apple (since I just pre-ordered the iPhone 4) and Samsung since I will also be purchasing the Galaxy S if it arrives for AT&T.
Huawei just because the US government said we should not.

I just trade my nova plus for P20. Good choice. Clear sound, louder speakers, faster, all in all a decent option.
