Phone comparison is the most prominent thing one should really focus on. You gotta dig deeper into specifications to find the perfect fit for you.

Samsung. Same here. Stumbled onto Samsung. Now on 2nd Samsung. Samsung has an easy transfer app for contacts, etc.
The speakerphone is on the side (not back as LG).

Also take into consideration the mAh (battery) or any new phone.

Just got myself an LG G8. I liked my V30+ but I really wanted a better screen and less lag. Totally a worthy upgrade.

Been a Samsung mark for years. Had an S10 but recently broke the screen. I was able to get a LG V40 for basically the cost to replave my S10 screen and so far I love it. I'm sure it will be much better once its updated to Pie. Amazing an $800 phone at launch 8-9 months ago and you can get it for $330-$400 new depending which carrier. I got a used one in excellent condition for $279

I would like to try an iPhone. Not sure when "next" is, but I have a Pixel 3A XL currently so maybe when that one dies.

I suppose I’ll stick with IPhone because nearly everyone in my & my wife’s extended family have one, so seamless communication. We use

FaceTime with kids & 2 grandkids , although I’ve heard Google Duo is a great video chat app ( among others ). iPhone cost more upfront , but

    resale is also higher.

I’m open to tying Google Pixel and Moto G /E /Z series phones - they tend to be a bit less expensive upfront. Motorola known for good reception

in their radios, at least in the past.

These brands are closer to stock Android I’ve read, minimal bloatware.

While I have been using Samsung Galaxy S4, S6, and now S9+, my wife loves her iStuff. She is currently using a 6S+ that is now four years old and will probably need to be replaced sometime soon. The battery is going weak, 16-GB of memory is not enough, and she is considering the 11 Max or Max Pro. Granted, the 11's will not do 5G, and the iPhone 12 will not be out for another six (or more) months. That is not a problem, unless 4G/LTE goes away (doubtful) in the next few years. Add to that the total lack of 5g throughout most all of central upstate NY, and 5G becomes even less a concern.

As an "aside", does anybody know for how long VZW will use 4G/LTE? I was told their 3G goes away in a matter of months from now, and the changeover to LTE is already in process.

I am going to get a XS as my next phone. I had an Note 8 and want a smaller phone. I want to go back to holding a phone one handed. I know the gboard has one handed type but it's not the same.

Verizon CDMA voice is scheduled to end at the end of 2020. You have not been able to activate a phone with only CDMA voice for over a year now. They are only running CDMA voice As-Is, Where-Is to the end. Everything else is VoLTE for voice now and into the foreseeable future.

As for how long VZW will use 4G/LTE. It is way too early for an announcement about that. 5G has a long way to go before it can replace LTE. My guess is about ten years. Vz is not going to throw up a half-baked 5G network and suddenly tell all their subscribers, "You need a new phone in a few months to a year." Maybe five years until having a 5G phone would be a significant advantage.

On topic: I don't expect to need a new phone for several years.

bobdevnul, your latest post has nothing to do with the thread. You should create a new thread for useful feedback as most members won't instinctively come to this thread looking to discuss the subject you just posted.

We're holding off on replacing my wife's Nexus 5X until we can find an unlocked, mid-range, carrier-agnostic phone that is compatible with T-Mobile's current and proposed (e.g. n41) 5G bands.
