I visit Nashville, Brentwood, Franklin area many times a year and I find the service excellent. I don't put my faith in Consumer Reports.

Jeebus how on Earth do use 3 phones at once? BALLER! But yea he couldn't use his phone at all in northern CA, even in town there was no signal lol. Here it's spotty at best. The iphone he has is an older one though, not sure the exact one or if that could be the problem. Although when he had the Sony he still always had the problem of not getting text. Oh and I forgot about my other friend who has a Balckberry Torch and can't use his phone in the Ashland City area. When he is at his girlfriends house that is in a rural area and you call him it doesn't even ring it just says he cant be found or some BS like that. He can't receive texts out there either.

edit: My phone works fine in all the spots theirs don't and it's not fancy at all it's just a Motorola barrage.

If the signal isnt stable, specially in small country and its not even far from the metropolis where cellsite / transmitters are built, thats not a good sign. Either that service provider has low range of service or cant maintain the signal.

I'm actuallly very surprice to see ATT with such low Votes.. They have made such huge improvements and now with 4G LTE all of the places in SouthCAL.. they are only getting better..

Truthfully there is no one correct answer to this question.
The best provider for one person may not be the best for another.
The answer would be the one that best provides service for the particular persons needs.
Needs could be nation wide service or just local, max min, text, data and cost is no obstacle or best at min cost for all the above or minimum coverage at rock bottom cost for emergency use only.

The question might better be asked, "What is the best Cell Phone Provider for you in the USA"

Where I live/use the service, AT&T works best for me.

LTE - doesn't exist here on any carrier (yet), no WiMAX either. Both end up ~5 miles south at LA city limits.
T-Mobile's service here should be as good (if not better) than AT&T, but they were late to the party for me, and I have good work discounts on all carriers except T-Mobile.
    AT&T... your world, throttled.

Yeah, use what is best for you.. I kept coming back to Sprint because they are overall much cheaper, but 3 weeks ago I finally got fedup and moved to ATT to noticed a huge difference with much better reception and indoor penetration.. I was happy until I started getting one too many unexpected blackout areas that Sprint or any other carrier easily covers.. But,, I had a change of heart with ATT on the 14th day, and moved my 3 lines to Verizon.. Now my 4G LTE is muuuuch freaking faster and the calls are more reliable, not to mention that the new HTC Droid DNA is a monster of a phone..

I'm loving life right about now.. :P

It's hard to categorize a nationwide best carrier, except in the category of who has the widest coverage. Data speed and quality of coverage varies from locale to locale. I tried Verizon, the poll winner here, and all I got was dropped calls and slow data on their LTE. Both AT&T and T-Mobile beat them for data speed like a drum. But I found AT&T had the most consistent data speed and broadest coverage. But that's my experience in the area I live and travel in. I'm sure the results would be different elsewhere.

I voted Verizon because of how many times I've traveled with friends and, while in the middle of nowhere, I was the only one with signal.
