I spoke to a rep 2 weeks before the curve 3G came out and he said it was coming, now I spoke to him as well(toping up my account a week early) and he said the 9780 refresh is coming(thats why their wanting to get older stock out). should go for $500 and the 9700 supposidly drops to 350.. can anyone confirm?!

    Thanks..
not to start a stir but I'd like to purchase it and try it on both wind and mobilicity..

I don't think this is true. and what $500 are you talking about, the Bold is $400 right now, and comes with a free Pearl.

What? Who cares what the current bold is going for? This is a different device. and he even says the 9700 is going to drop $50 in price.

No word yet on the 9780 from what I've heard. But I wouldnt be surprised to see it in a month or so. Just a guess.

$500 for the 9780 is far too much, I think it will be $400.

Wind will get it as soon a RIM starts shipping it to them... That might take a little while because they'll be focusing on getting handsets to T-Mobile first.

Personally I don't think Wind will be getting the Bold 9780. The BlackBerry buy 1 get 1 free is in the hopes to keep attracting customers with high end phones so people don't buy the Huawei's and complain, lol.

When wind 1st got the 9700 they were selling it for 475 i think,so now selling a bit better bold at 25 dollar more is believable.

T-Mobile sells the 9780 for $449.99, and Wind usually undercuts their price so I think $400 is reasonable. There has to be a ton of profit on this device - it's an ancient (although functional) design that was paid for eons ago in the mobile world.

Actually when they first got the 9700 they acquired it at around $430-440/unit and sold it for $450. I'm sure with time the cost of the device (9700) came down.

Honestly when thinking about it, 99% of consumers really won't really appreciate the difference from 9700 to 9780.

Consumers will notice the difference between OS5 and OS6. Until OS6 is available for WIND 9700's (through official non-leak channels) the 9780 would be a very attractive upgrade (in terms of Blackberries).

I don't know anyone who has a 9700 that sees the 9780 as an upgrade. Some of us are running the OS6 leaks already (I'm currently running .358) and others are satisfied to wait for the official release. People running older Berries might be tempted to upgrade to get OS6, but again a lot of people are interested in the new QNX OS and will wait for that. The 9780 is the device to get if you want a new Berry now, that's about it.

Besides the usual tech-savvy people, I really think a high percentage of consumers with blackberrys won't even realize what OS6 is. This is from personal experience, and when BB users complain about their phone and mention iPhone or something else, I always tell them that OS6 will be a nice update, etc, and they have no idea what it is or what its about. From feedback I've received, most casual BB or 9700 users are seeing the 9800 as something new or a significant upgrade. Of course this is bit off topic.. I guess that when stock is depleted they'll eventually switch over to the 9780 from 9700, but it doesn't look like its going to be a priority.

Yeah I misread his quote to be saying the 9700 was $500, and I was trying to clarify.

Anyways, the point being it's not coming in 2010.

Yesterday a Vancouver Wind dealer added the 9780 to its listing of Wind phones, along with the HTC HD7 and the Nokia C7.
