Recommendation for lower end Telus Android phone

    Hi ...
I'm looking for a lower end (ie. inexpensive) Android phone for my wife. Planning to browse Kijiji/Craigslist for one, hopefully for around $150-$180.
Am thinking of any of the Shine Plus, Optimus One, Backflip, Galaxy Apollo, maybe an older one like Hero ...
Does anyone have any experience with any of the above ?
    Thanks!

Just picked up a few Optimus ones for $50 each (to unlock and use as backups) so I'd love to hear any thoughts as well. Mine should be here from Telus next week.

Where did you get them for $50 each?

Telus gave me a no contract hardware upgrade for $150 off of any hspa phone. I have two lines so I grabbed two for $49.99 each plus tax. I'm actually going to switch one of my lines over to the new hspa network on one of the phones but I haven't decided on the second. I like my BB and I'm not sure if I want to make the LG my day to day phone. If not I'll keep it as a backup or maybe throw it on the prepaid $20 (250 megs/free texts) plan.

My nephew has had an Apollo for a bit over a month now and still thinks that it's great.

How did you get that deal? Are you on a corp plan?

Nope just two regular (really kick ***) plans on one account. We've been with Telus for like 14 years though and have really spotty service in the condo building we just moved into. So the very kind guy at loyalty offered us that to hopefully improve our reception. Really couldn't be happier with The offer.

anyone have any thoughts on buying a used Hero vs a new Optimus One? As far as I can tell, the specs for the phones are essentially the same. (I don't care about the lower resolution of the camera on the LG)

Main advantage of Optimus One is that it comes with 2.2 stock vs having to root and upgrade the Hero?

Just the usual one: "Friends don't let friends buy LG". They have made so many phones over the years that just plain broke that I'll never recommend an LG phone to anyone. Now, their laundry machines are excellent... but the handsets are a different matter.

I got the LG Optimus One for my wife and it works well. It's been a month so I can't comment on its durability.
But so far, battery lasts long and the build is good.
I rooted Android and removed some stuff. Changed the home screen to Launcher Pro and overclocked it a little. Also changed keyboard to Gingerbread keyboard.
    It runs super smooth.

^ do you know if there's an ota installer for the gingerbread keyboard? I'd love to install it on my optimus but I'm an android noob and I have a Mac so I have no idea how to do it that way. Thanks!
