GPS APP with locally stored Maps

Hey Guys, I think I searched this topic a long time ago and I didnt find any answers for this but do you know if android has any GPS applications with the maps stored locally? I am an iphone user and I really dont want to move to android unless theres a decent GPS app I can use without having to incur data charges if I go to the US.

Copilot's local maps are never all that accurate, that's because almost all of the data used for the maps are user-submitted.

google maps will cache some data, I used this when I went to the states without a data plan. I would just use maps to look at the area I was going to and it worked fairly well for my needs. The navigation portion won't work of course, but you can still use it as a location finder and map.

Navigon is available on the market...price is $56. I'm also looking for something reasonable because I pay for data and maps uses alot of data!

Not true. CoPilot does accept input from users regarding map errors and the such but their data is culled from the same sources as every other large navigation company.

CoPilot is a great map software for Android, iPhone, and Windows Mobile. I use it on my Android, and my buddy uses it on his wp7. It is only $5 for the U.S. map. You also get to update the maps for free through the desktop suite that is provided on their site.

I have never had an issue with it.. Good luck

Agreed. I have Garmin XT Mobile on my Windows 6.0 and CoPilot on my iPhone and Android Tab and I far prefer the customization of CoPilot. Also, it is much less expensive. I paid $14.99 CAD for the Android version (all North America) and I think I paid $19.99 for the iPhone. Garmin for Windows cost me over $100 and I have never even seen an update!

All North America includes Canada in case someone didn't know that.

My father paid Garmin $80 for his app on his Blackberry.. Not one update!
