Nexus S Rogers & Mobilicity versions

Hi I was wondering is it possible to buy a Nexus S from Mobilicity and use it on the Rogers network? I know they come unlocked and I want to know would the phone not work at all or would it just work on 2G rogers and not 3G.

Also viceversa if I buy a Rogers Nexus S will it work on Mobilicity at all or no?

Thank you I have done some research but its still a little confusing.

Yes, but you will not be making use of the HSPA network Rogers uses.

Rogers, Bell, Telus (Robellus): UMTS/HSPA 850/1900/2100 MHz
    Wind/Mobilicity: UMTS/HSPA 900/1700/2100 MHz

1700 MHz is commonly referred to as AWS in North America. It's also unique to us. T-Mobile, Wind and Mobilicity are pretty much the only carriers currently utilizing this frequency.

    got my answer

On the bottom of my Mobilicity Nexus S, in annoying-to-read gray type it says:
"This phone is used on quad band 850/900/1800/1900 EDGE/GPRS/GSM and tri band 900/1700/2100 MHz HSPA networks"

It's definitely unlocked (has made a voice call with a Rogers SIM). That means it will work on 3G on Mobilicity, Wind, and Videotron, as well as T-Mobile in the US. It is the exact same phone Bestbuy has been selling in the US for $530. It will NOT do 3G on Robelus or AT&T in the US.

For Robelus, you need the version Robelus and their sub-brands are selling directly or at Bestbuy in Canada. I expect that its label will say 850/1900/2100 for HSPA. It too is unlocked, as far as I know. It will not do 3G on Mobilicity, Wind, Videotron, or T-Mobile US. It WILL do 3G on Robelus or AT&T in the US.

Two different models. Read the bottom of the box.

Why would you get the mobilicity version to use on Rogers?

    Folks,

When a AWS-capable variant of Nexus S i.e. GT-I9020T getting voice service on Rogers, it is NOT going through the 3G network in the UMTS "mode"! Rogers has NOT got the 3G network in the AWS band, it is just the 2G GSM "mode" in the 850 / 1900 bands!

Seems like you need to make some changes on your plan cause it shouldn't be that high.

If you might leave, you're probably better off waiting then, cause what happens if you decide to stay? Then you're stuck with a 2G Nexus S on Rogers.

...Nop, it is not going to work properly....they have different freqs, they may allow u to use voice but no data, get the Clown version (Koodo) since it's cheaper than the Rogers and it will work with no issues since they use the same freqs, BB has it for $425 last time I checked (last nite).

There is like 4 or 5 versions of Nexus S, check here:

    Hope that helps!

If you plan on using data on Rogers, get the Rogers/Koodo/Telus/Bell/Yadayada version and if you decide to leave in September to go to Mobilicity or Wind, sell or trade yours for the other version. If you don't plan on ever using data on it with Rogers, then the speed won't matter.
