    Anyway to Tether iPhone 4?

Is there anyway to tether without jailbreaking or getting att tether plan?
I have unlimited data plan now and hate to get rid of it

Does it really matter what phone you use to tether? Since any tethering without the proper data plan is contrary to the terms and conditions, get another line with a basic phone and tether until you are discovered.

If I added a basic phone ($10), and I get an unlimited data plan ($30) (for non-smart phones) how would I set it up to tether?

You would need to jailbreak the phone and install a tether app from Cydia. Then AT&T would likely notice you are (1) using an iPhone without an iPhone plan, and (2) tethering. They probably will change you to the correct data plan then.
Seems like it is cool to have these in your sig?

If you do not know how to tether, maybe you do not need to tether. You have to do some things for yourself. Unlimited data cost $15.00 for a basic phone.

I have had iphones exclusively since they came out and got rid of my aircard about 3 years ago, so excuse me I've been out of the 'regular' phone world for a little while

your pretty much stuck since you have to pay the fee to tether which is ridiculous imo. The only other way is to jailbreak your iphone and get a tether program. I have done this and haven't been charged.

Tethering setup instructions are specific for a phone model and a carrier network. How could someone give you generic instructions which would apply to all phones on every carrier. If tethering and keeping your unlimited smartphone data plans are that important to you, add your additional line, get a phone and then ask for instructions for that phone on your carrier. There is a long sticky thread in the AT&T Forum on tethering, where this question should have been asked in the first place.

AT&T still will detect that it is an iPhone via the IMEI and require an iPhone (and tethering) plan.

i was thinking that maybe a factory unlocked iphone 4 (from say Canada), would have an IMEI that isn't in AT&T's database... like people using Telus HTC Desires on AT&T for example... and sort of float under the radar as far as tethering... but maybe that's not the case... ?

Not really. A majority of the IMEI is called the TAC assigned by the BABT, it is specific to a manufacturer and device model. This 8-digit code of the IMEI functions as a device identifier. Thus, AT&T could look up any handset and know what device it is. Whether or not they do it is a different story. Since the iPhone is sold by AT&T, they would recognize the TAC quickly.

That should be you're a rude person. Please learn how to use contractions. Thanks! Oh, and just in case you didn't know to and too don't have the same meaning either.
