My Straight Talk SIM card won't work on my unlocked iPhone 3G

i bought a new straight talk phone b.c i heard you could use it in an iPhone.
i activated the phone and stuck the sim card into my iPhone
it says no service and wont make any calls or send anything.
the number shows up when i go to settings and click on phone,
but the phone wont make calls.
i tried going on cydia and looking up supreme preferences but that didn't work either.
how do i get this to work..
