Bionic stuck at "Please wait until your phone has been activated"

I just received a bionic from my sister-in-law who no longer wanted it. I have a fresh SIM in it and all I get is "please wait until your phone has been activated". I admit im a newb so any help would be appreciated in letting me in on how you got past the "please wait..."screen. I want to get the thing into diag mode so I can start tinkering with it but it doesnt seem to want to let me until its activated. I dont plan on using verizon(looking at pageplus) so calling them up and activating a 2y contract is out of the question.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Stue

Call Verizon and make sure the sim card AND serial number on the phone match what they have in the system. Even though they use sim cards, the still go by a serial number to identify which model you're using.
A phone is only fun when you can modify it anyway you please.

The Verizon UI....unhackable? I think not

Power the phone down power back up
When it gets to the droid eye hold both the up and down buttons til you see the green android guy
Tap the top left corner of the screen
Tap the top right corner of the screen
Tap the bottom right corner of the screen (just above the gray bar along the bottom emergency dial button)
Tap the bottom left corner of the screen (just above the gray bar along the bottom emergency dial button)

You dont need to be in safe mode to bypass initial setup.

Touching the four corners of the screen works for all Droid devices in normal boot mode.

adams instructions worked for me. You have to touch the 4 corners he details above. I tried tapping the 4 corners I thought were the right 4 corners but in the end the bottom 2 corners I was tapping were wrong and so nothing would happen

LOL you do not need safe mode. You just cant pop in a sim card and expect it to work. If it was a new phone the intructions clearly say you HAVE TO CALL to get the SIM activated.

What we do is when someone calls, we have them remove sim card, we change in billing system. Have person insert sim and power on and within 5 mins its activated.

NEVER insert simcard before adding it to the accnt. Sometimes they stay *foreverunactivated

yeah that may work if you plan on going w verizon but if you read my post I went w ppc. So you don't follow the instructions on the phone.

To use a NEW or REPLACEMENT sim card from anyone but verizon, you must call them to activate it.
If verizon sends you a new sim card it is usually already attached to your account.
If you put your old, still active, sim card in a new device; it works immediately.
Source: I just had to deal with all of this.
