the real magic happens at 5-8 megapixels with oversampling .. there is so much innovation in this, its kind of hard not to get excited. This is not just a milestone for Nokia, this is a milestone for the whole industry in terms of mobile photography. I see this as a straight hit at Canon, Nikon, and co..

Just read trough this.. phenomenal stuff.

even dpreview (strictly photography) have an article on it..

I figured that you would be interested, once I have read your review and it's positive I'll get mine. I bought my N8 in November of 2010 and this is the longest I have gone between phones since I bought my 6632.

    What a brick (at 18mm)!
It is nice nokia learned from its past mistakes.
Let the remaining die hard symbian users beta test the technology (all they will do is complain anyway), then implement the solutions learned into the lumia line

Looking at the specs from MWC so far this year, it's been ok. Quad core, 720p screens, 2 gigs ram, etc etc etc. Nothing that really surprised me or wowed me.

And then this. Holy crapoly. My wife will kill me if I pick this up so soon after my current phone (picked up a sensation a few weeks ago)... but no other phone from MWC has impressed me as the 808 has.

I love my N9 and plan to continue using it for years as something I like to tinker with. I would have rather seen a N950 like device for Harmattan rather than a 808 equivalent.
I carry at least 2 phones on me at any one time, sometimes more. Currently my preferred daily is the N9 and will remain so till I find a good replacement.

My second is the N8, which will be replaced with the Nokia Pureview 808.

I don't see Symbian^3 as a good replacement for my N9. Nor do I see anything else as a good replacement for it. 41mp great. No Harmattan, no deal.

I want a better camera attached to my N9. If that was the case (even a 10mp sensor) I'd gladly keep the N9 for many years to come.

Symbian Belle as good as it is, is still not something I am extremely excited about.

A lot of specs on the 808 are lacking behind my N9.

Don't get me wrong, I wish it was a harmattan phone, but it'll sell better with symbian.
Selling better with Symbian Belle, I agree. Implement this into Harmattan, if the entire Harmattan team didn't leave, it wouldn't take that long.

^ that's exactly what i'm planning to do. plus since there's a micro sim, i don't have to mess with an adapter anymore between the 2 phones. i with the maps on the N9 was better though

I too carry both a N8 and a N9. I love them and think they compliment each other well. I agree that if the N9 had a better camera I would only carry that. Unfortunately there will be no new Harmattan devices. I have accepted that. I still plan to carry the N9 with my 808. Like I said I am ok with the 808 running Symbian. Harmattan would be nice but to me Symbian is just as good.

man the whole point about convergence is once device. It's why I loved the N8. Now with the N9, I don't see myself packing my N8 along as well. For day to day stuff, the N9 is fine for photos.

I too am contemplating an 808, but I don't see myself carrying the N9 and 808 at the same time. It would be like my 808 with my DSLR if I think I might need some good camera options that day.

So hard to decide how everything will fit together in each of our lifestyles

By carry I mean I keep my N8 in my car. I use my N9 90% of the time during the week and switch to my N8 on weekends or if I am going somewhere I will want to take pictures or video.

The N9 actually comes in very handy for me at work!
